JSA and casual work

Curiousity .. could somebody here tell me if you can do casual work and not claim JSA or are you in breach of another rule ?
Cheers.

  • Course. You don't have to claim JSA. So long as you are declaring any earnings it's fine.

Doing anything at all in this country at all and they'll find a rule that you are breaching.

Is this work through the books where the employer is paying your tax and NI and paying you sick pay and holiday pay? Are you being paid minimum wages? Are you doing it in a self employment manner? If so, have you registered as self employed? Are you using a car for this work? If so, did you inform your insurance company that you are using a car for business purposes? There are a million more did you do this or that's....

:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p

You need to declare your earnings to HMRC though. No need to tell the JC anything if you're not claiming anyway.

OP - why would you worry about JSA if you are working casual but NOT getting JSA?

However if you are getting some other benefit you would have to tell them if this casual work means you would not get it
