Sky Talk line rental increase from 1 December

I've noticed the following declaration on the sky website this morning

Sky's line rental price will increase on 1 December 2013, but will remain cheaper than BT's current standard monthly price (£15.45 a month).

I think line rental is going to become more or less consistent across the board. (Talk Talk according to their website also charge £15.40).
Paid off the last of my unsecured debts in 2016. Then saved up and bought a property. Current aim is to pay off my mortgage as early as possible. Currently over paying every month. Mortgage due to be paid off in 2036 hoping to get it paid off much earlier. Set up my own bespoke spreadsheet to manage my money.

With them all following the first to put up prices.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

  • Sky's upfront line rental went up from GBP119.40 to GBP140.40 today.

I know this because I spoke to a sales advisor around midday, he was adament that the GBP119.40 offer was available (as he only just sold one this morning) only to find out that the system updated half way through the call.

The website has also been updated and now states:
"*Upfront line rental: Available to new and existing customers taking Sky Broadband, Talk and line rental. Line rental is charged as an upfront cost of £140.40 for the entire 12 months. Equivalent to £11.70 per month - a saving of £33.60 over 12 months at our current standard monthly price (£14.50). Our standard monthly price will increase to £15.40 from 1 December 2013. After the 12 months has ended, you will automatically be moved on to the standard monthly price, unless you specify otherwise. Only available by calling 08442 410311."

I just rang sky and asked if they had any deals going on and was offered 1/2price line rental for 12 mths and will increase when the standard line rental goes up which means my deal will always be half price. May not been a cracking deal but still saves me money over the next 12 months. Very happy . Even better the have changed their telephone system and you get to speak to someone in a english call centre.

A call centre lady told me that they only have the one foreign call centre (out of ten ?).

I think the online chat is foreign, too, as the last person I 'chatted' with obviously had problems with English.
  • Was told full year line rental was £140.40. Asked if I could have that on a monthly standing order! She said to hold as she had to ask a colleague if it was possible unfortunately the predictable answer was NO.

It is only a discounted price because you pay the year's rental in advance. Paying by monthly standing order would be the same as paying by monthly direct debit for which one has to pay the full price, which could change.
