Hi guys..

Well I'm really and utterly fed up. Life has not been kind to me! This is a bit of a rant to let off some steam really, share my experience and hopefully show some of you that it could be worse! It's been a while since I posted in the employment forum and some may remember me for being a bit doom n gloom - read on and you'll see I've had good reason.

Not had any work for ages and I have £0 income. Barely any qualifications thanks to a disruptive pshychopath of a parent who was on a power trip so naturally my options in life are somewhat limited.

In my former jobs I had some real nasty bosses who just loved to turn the screw and put as much pressure on as possible to make life hard. You know the type.. pshycho's who get pleasure from backing people into a corner and making them suffer. Well when you're being repeatedly kicked in the teeth life tends to throw you another curve. I ended up with a health problem that was making life difficult (becoming a cripple) and led to me being victimised by the boss's. Turns out it was caused by another health problem and the NHS basically screwed up their diagnosis and imposed disability on me and all the discrimination that followed. I didn't know this at the time, went through hell at work, cautions for being difficult etc. Just imagine being in non-stop pain, being crippled, feeling the world is against you, no family to turn to, bosses giving you hell just for working there etc. Naturally with the world bearing down on me I cracked in both jobs and left.

Anyway eventually the NHS offered a minor procedure which fixed one issue that I'd been living in pain with for years. Months later my other health problem that caused work problems also cleared up :) Turns out that blood flow and nerves can affect things all over the body..

So after being out of work for ages and having my types of work limited by bad luck and disability, I found a new job as a cabbie! It was a hoot.. great customers, plenty of "putting the world right" discussions, a few tips (peanuts most times but sometimes you'd get a tenner which made me feel better about myself), driving round country lanes late at night with the radio etc. I thought I'd perhaps finally found myself something good. Pay was a bit crap but the job was enjoyable and positive so I was happier than in my previous jobs. No that wasn't allowed.. the first health problem came back and brought back the secondary one meaning I could no longer drive for a living.

So.. back to the NHS. Months later they decide to operate again but this time do the proper operation they denied me years ago under general anaesthetic. Long story short they screwed that up and nearly killed me  Initially they didn't even think there was anything wrong and just observed me for what seemed like an eternity (days) while I was in crippling pain. By the time they believed me I was struggling to stay conscious, doped up on morphine, barely able to breathe (felt like my chest was being crushed by an elephant) etc. Needless to say they rushed me into theatre and performed emergency surgery to find out what was wrong. Pulled my guts apart, found the previous surgeons damage and put it right, did all sorts of other things to me and saved my life. I spent an eternity in the hospital after that, had the community nurses visiting me at home for weeks, couldn't stand up straight for 3 months etc.

Unfortunately the life saving surgery caused even more complications. I need at least two more operations to fix those blunders and as a result I am still physically not able to do much. Bending is difficult, heavy lifting is out (guts could basically explode - medical advise) and to add insult, the original medical problem that nearly cost me my life is slowly returning - AGAIN! I may end up having something else amputated. On top of that they're also now investigating my abdomen for liver / kidney failure as I have also developed other symptoms :(

So to recap: Little qualifications, no office experience for 10 years, not able to do anything physical, can't drive, shot references, no benefits (I live with someone in full time work / education), ongoing health problems to put off employers, at least two more operations needed, possible other illnesses and I have a record for mental health problems! Oh and on top of that my partner is starting to crack under the strain and they're the one keeping us both afloat

I think it's safe to say my chances of finding work in this apprenticeship crazy age is extremely slim. If you thought you had it hard finding work give yourself a pat on the back - you're not in my big dollop of poo! :o

Chin up fellow strugglers, it really could be worse! I know you might feel like you're in a fix but as long as you're not being hunted down by life and barred from doing anything, you still have a chance!

Good luck to all of you,

Tricky.

How can it be worse when you have no job? No £, no real life?

There is not a lot worse

Not helped by someone pointing that out in the early hours of the morning.....

I hope you can find something to make you smile, OP.
:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.

Sorry did I say I was talking about me? I said there were a lot of people the same and worse.

Self centred? I thought that's what the OP's post was all about to be fair. Telling us all 'you thought you had it bad' Well maybe 'we' do!

In what way is it self centred to point out that there are a lot of people in similar and worse situations.

There are homeless people, that would be worse.

My income is ESA which is about to be stopped. Despite the massive panic attacks (which make me pass out they get so bad) and anxiety I'm currently suffering. I have back problems from 28 years of lifting my mother around. I have no qualifications and no experience with work at all because I have always cared for my mother.

I lost my mum in December after being her career for my entire life. I have no other family. I have a quarter of the household income I used to (my mum and I shared bills etc) and twice the bills. There's a loan on the house I can't afford to repay so will probably lose my house.

I feel for the OP obviously. Sounds like they've had a really crappy time of it and I wish them all the luck in the world.

But it's not self centred to say there are other people in just as bad a situation.

It's good to have a vent. I think when life throws you crap like you've been getting all you can do is ride the storm, it won't be like this forever, you#ve just gotta keep reminding yourself of that.

There certainly are! There are those with terminal illnesses such as cancer. The state likes to treat them like dirt too.

Thanks very much! So let me get this right, others around here can let off steam but not tricky? You know some people like to hear of others going through the mill as it makes them feel a bit better knowing they're not alone.

You might remember I used the words "to show some of you that it could be worse!" I didn't say everyone, I know many folks here are in the dirt.

Somehow though you think that just being unemployed with no income is just as bad.. Tell you what mate, go have a go at staring death in the face, get your belly cut open and struggle to do anything for months and then perhaps you'll appreciate what it's actually like ;) Many folks here will be able to apply for many types of work- I can apply for very little due to the limits imposed on me.
OP-have you tried a good, medical negligence lawyer re what you have been put through?

Yes.. via one of the companies on the TV and I've got a solicitor who's taken over 6 months just to get the paperwork from the NHS - 6 months! Clearly there won't be any justice for Tricky but then I'm always in a tricky fix somehow..
