I have never smoked because of my Grandad..... he was actually my step Grandad and was always special to me when I was growing up, but is more special in my memories today as I know he took on my Dads Mum and my Dad when Dad was younger at a time when they were in very poor circumstances.... they spent time in a workhouse after the war, then in a Nissen hut for a number of years. (People think they have it hard now!)
I lost him when I was about 10 due to lung cancer, I wasn't even allowed to visit him during his last month as he went down to about 4 stone. His passing was also a huge loss to my Nan and my Dad too.
I'm not lecturing to anyone, but if reading this story encourages even one person to take part in Stoptober i've done my bit.

Gives me a chance to come to terms with the idea.
Plus I will wind up my swimming again as that makes it much easier to stop drinking, I think it is the endorphins.
Put the smokers on your list too, hopefully that way you can reach at least 10..... maybe more.
And everyone can be supported together.0 -

Ah Squills I will join you. Slipping back to a couple of drinks every night since the holiday. Just finished the Quirky Bird.
Post kids, chemo and tamoxifen mean I am now 2 stone heavier than 2 years ago (I had always been same weight and slim) and too knackered to exercise - empty calories have to go. So back to 5;2 with a vengeance, maybe could kill 2 birds with one stone.
With you on the AA - when I was a student my landlady had alcohol issues - used to have to hide her car keys so she couldn't drive out for a curry after drinking all day, pour the vodka away if I found it. She used to put vodka in her coffee so people wouldn't notice. Her hubby worked away a lot and they had issues. AA does require the whole god bit, she had a bit of success with AA but then her sponsor started an affair with her (wt ..). Back to square one .... Found it hard used to call sponsor asking for help - which they wouldn't do if she was drunk, hard to understand when your young I guess. God I didn't know what to do and was frightened to leave her (why do GPs give recovering alcoholics drugs which they can't take with alcohol cos they do 'slip'). It was hard on her kids used to make sure they'd got breakfast, chat with them - be there when she wasn't around (into hospital for stomach pumping alcohol and tablets). No body from AA wanted to know. Hubby's Mum of 70 used to come over when she was hospitalised.
For sure tho they have to want to be helped can see that now I'm older.... Still think there should be an agnostic AA - or rather AAA:)
