I would have agreed with you about AA 7 years ago. However my OH got sober with their help 6 years ago and has not had a drink since. After 25 year of being married to an alcoholic I am now married to a sober and much better person ( albeit we live seperately ).
But to be fair he only actually went for about 9 months because he found it a bit intrusive after that. He now keeps sober by walking and reading and surfing the net. He is also a climber and his club ( like Elite ) is UKClimbing.com.
Rant over and best of luck with the dry month.
BTW I only drink rarely myself and when I rearranged my stash I found 18 bottles wine, 15 small bottles, 8 packs Bavaria and 1 bottle Asti0
