Hi all
I need some advice.
I've asked to do part time at the end of my 9months maternity leave and this has been rejected.
I'll be going from 40 hours per week to 25 hours per week doing mornings only.
I don't really understand the reasoning behind it as it simply states the following:
"Inability to re-organise work among existing staff and
inability to recruit additional staff:"
That's all it says and that I can appeal within 2weeks.
I can't understand why it's been rejected as there's already a few people doing same hours that I requested, so surely the reasons they've given applies to them too?

The reasons would apply to any one of the others - if it were the case that you were already doing those hours and they were the additional person wanting mornings only.
Presumably there has to be a minimum of people available during the afternoons, and to be able to cope with holidays and unforeseen absences.0 -

!
Surely that's the point though. They can cope with the ones they've approved in the past but not with any more. I doubt they could continue to operate if everyone asked for the same hours. Seems a reasonable business reason to me.
Perhaps if you had offered to work different hours ie afternoons and Fridays when the others are not there.0 -
I reckon it is due to overuse of exclamation remarks!!!0

Not seen ".!" At the end of EVERY sentence before. Hilarious.Trying to be a man is a waste of a woman0

Basically, OP, you're too late. Your employer can't a compadre yet another part time morning worker. You and hubby had better come up with a plan B.

Another thread on a similar topic (albeit different facts).0 -
Sorry. I wasn't clear in the original post.
I meant there are people doing the same number of hours that I've requested, but not the same days or times.0 -
And sorry about th exclamation marks. I typed the post on an app on my phone and copied and pasted it to here and he exclamation marks appeared at the end of each sentence. Not sure how.0
