This season's fashion

Hi

So I need a few new clothes - things for work mainly. Now last winter I saw loads of things I liked, but didn't buy them as I knew I'd be leaving my job at the end of Feb and wasn't sure how long it'd take me to get another one. Now I'm working again and need some new clothes and I'm really struggling to find anything I like. Is it just me? I normally love the Autumn/Winter clothes, but this year, I'm totally uninspired. Is it just me?

Gwen

High wasited trousers/jeans, daytime body con dresses, over size coats and fake fur seem to be whats going on this winter. Also long and ankle boots with heels. I bought a copy of Elle yesterday and felt inspired after reading that, eclectic and indviduality seems to be a theme too. I like H&M and River Island for high street atm :)

Why not buy last year's fashions cheaper from charity shops or ebay?
But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,

No offence to anyone who does, but I hate all that stuff! I like fairly classic, but feminine stuff. All the patterns at the moment are scaring me too - I don't do patterns. I just want fairly classic tops, jumpers, dresses, trousers etc. Normally I can always rely on Next, but a lot of the fabric they've used this season looks cheap to me.

That thought had crossed my mind. I might give ebay a go. Thanks!

Thats why there are so many different clothes shops:D Next, M&S Wallis etc all make me feel frumpy and old, I find the clothes are huge and not at all fashionable but of course its each to thier own, I am also fortunate enough not to have to dress for work or be restricted by a dress code so I really can please myself and be as fashionable as I choose. Just a thought but are you aware George at Asda is virtually the same style as Next but considerably cheaper and some say better quality, also if you have a Choice shop near you they have a huge amount of Next clothing at very reduced prices, current and previous seasons, happy shopping, hope you find what your looking for:)

Thanks, I'll have a look into George at Asda. I have quite a lot of clothes if I could just lose some weight, so it makes that matter more pressing. If I can lose weight I can wear what I already have and save some money buying new stuff, if I stay the same weight I'm going to have to look at ebay/George at Asda etc. It would be much easier if I was still in my old job - I could wear jeans everyday, but now I need to look reasonably smart at work.

  • Sainsbury have some lovely clothes at the moment.

I bought a beautiful black and white wrap dress from the Gok Wan range the other day that actually comes with a body control slip.

They had some other things that caught my eye too. Some lovely classic dresses - sort of grey down the middle and black shaping on the edges

    Looked very flattering

    Fashion has seriously gone downhill!

    I hate all this shapeless stuff,dodgy 80's prints,leather skinnies and fur.It's awful.

I like a classic with a twist look-just a hint of pattern or a softer texture somewhere.Like fitted coats and jackets, tops. It's a serious struggle this year!

I've been thinking that the quality of Next's clothing has gone downhill in the past few years. The materials they use dont seem to be so nice and the cuts are awful.

Me too! I hate the (imo) horrible prints everywhere, animal print, fake fur stuff. I just want fairly classic stuff. Maybe some jersey tops with a bit of ruching detail or something, maybe a wrap dress, some nice grey trousers, some of those thinner more fitted jumpers with a bit of detail on...things like that. I have spotted a couple of dresses for work in Oasis, which is normally my go to shop. It's the same dress in black and in purple with an animal print turn up on the sleeve. I'm going to look at the purple one and see if there's any way I can get rid of the animal print and replace it with another fabric or something.

It's always been very reliable especially for workwear, but this year I look around the store and feel like they've gone into the fabric shop and said 'what's the cheapest looking stuff you've got? I'll take all of it..'
