Santander vs Abbey?

Santander seems to have a reputation for messing people around. Abbey and Santander are essentially the same company, so do they inherit those same problems?
I had a broker come back with an Abbey recommendation. Worse rates and fees than Santander, but the broker says they're quick. Opinions? (on both speed and how much they mess people about)

It changed to Santander For Intermediaries a month or two ago, so Abbey is no longer the Santander intermediary brand name, although I notice Mortgage Brain is still showing Abbey on its product sourcing.
