Your appliance failing stories

About 40 mins ago, I decided to make some broccoli and cheese soup as my broccoli was going yellow.
Brought the onion and broccoli to the boil, then switched the heat off. Waited 10 mins to cool down before putting it into my plastic jug blender.
I switched it on and within 15 secs, I heard this metal clunk and afterwards soup pouring out from the bottom from the bottom of the jug! I only lost about 100ml of soup but it went everywhere and cleaned the floor, cupboard and worktop.
I managed to save most of the soup by pouring it into a bowl. On removing the jug from the base, I saw a screw spilt into two. That was the source of the clunk. When I tipped all of the soup into a bowl, I tipped the jug upside down. There is a metal disc which holds the blades. A screw broke off there and warped the metal. The liquid pours out of that gap. Its has one purpose - the bin!
Do you have any disasters that happened because of a kitchen appliance broke on you whilst using it?

My most memorable one was when my youngest was three months old and had a tummy bug and the tumble dryer went bang this was on xmas eve and the shops were all shut, it poured with rain for the next 3 days and I had wet washing hanging everywhere trying to get it dry as the bug passed to his big brother so I had two of them getting changed and changing bedding constantly.1 Sealed Pot Challenge # 1480

My washing machine broke recently and I only noticed when I went in the kitchen to make a cup of tea and was wading in water that was pouring out of the machine. Luckily the water didn't do any damage but the washing machine is still out of action.
The week before that my laptop broke and the week after was my vacuum cleaner. Seems like I'm having a spate of bad luck with appliances.0 -
Poor you! Well I had an interesting toasted sandwich for lunch today after the bread completely stuck to the sandwich toaster and had to be prized off in small pieces with a knife. The sandwich toaster is new and has only been used 2 or 3 times. I had used plenty of butter on the bread too. Very annoying.0

I had a toaster burst into flames one time (obv.
).. before that it would randomly give me electric shocks.
I have a dryer burst into flames in use and hauled it outside immediately.
I had a hair dryer burst into flames while drying my daughters hair..
Best one has to be the cooker... one of the children left the grill pan under the grill while it was on and shockingly that too burst into flames... 17th December.. I didn't get a replacement until 8th February.. that was not something I wish to experience again.. 8 children + Christmas - a cooker = pain!!!!!
I have an inate terror of fire.
Not an appliance but I had a pressure cooker full of stew explode on me.. there I was dripping gravy and carrots laughing hysterically
I also had a pyrex casserole dish explode on me... that was awful.. if you ever had one explode you will understand my pain, they shatter into a squillion bits of glass the size of dried peas and you are cleaning it up forever more.. mine was filled with defrosted mince which the kittens were trying to eat and I was fighting them off with one hand and trying to clean up mince and glass with the other..LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -
Well it wasn't really the fault of the appliance but my mil once had a Kenwood mixer break down whilst she was making marmalade.
Apparently she was busy chopping up peel using one of the attachments and learning her lines for the WI Drama group at the same time.
Trouble was she wasn't paying attention and chopped up the spatula she was using at the same time.:rotfl:It meant an expensive repair and she never dared admit to my fil what had caused it to go wrong.0 -
Fridge in our fridge freezer failed. I noticed fridge was warmer than normal, Hubbs convinced me it was still working, as bottom shelf was cold (due to freezer below). Ended with me getting food poisoning, and eventually a new fridge freezer. He paidSwagbucks Amazon gift vouchers 2014 125/250

I'm not sure if it really counts as it wasn't my appliance, but the washing machine belonging to the people in the flat above mine developed a major leak a couple of years ago, and I was drawn away from munching my breakfast toast by the noise of water pouring through the kitchen ceiling. I was without a cooker for a couple of days while the electrics dried out, but luckily no other damage was done - the bloke in the flat very kindly offered to pay for the kitchen to be redecorated, only for me to tell him that there was no need, which he seemed a bit disappointed about!Back after a very long break!0
