Unbelievable

I previously did a post on an insurance problem I had to do with hire charges, and thought it was all sorted, so again re posted on here to say that they are no longer requesting reimbursment for the hire charges from me so all was good.

No its, not .... instead of receiving a letter of confirmation I receive an invoice for £5431.32 !!

Can they do this when I have been told and have it in writing through my insurance company, that this hire company are not requesting money from me !

What do I do now ?

  • Not too sure on the back story on this one.
If I understand correctly a hire company are saying you owe money but you have already gone through your insurance company and they have said everything is sorted and you will no longer be chased?
I would phone the insurance company in the first instance to find out what is going on. I would then follow this up with a letter.
I would also write to the hire company and explain that you have had a letter from your insurance company saying that everything is sorted and ask them to investigate. Maybe mark it complaint so it goes to someone who can possibly sort it.
It seems likely that someone somewhere has made a mistake, either the hire company sending out a computer generated letter or someone at your solicitors dropping the ball. Another option is that for some reason you are not covered with the insurance but will have to settle privately (fingers crossed it is not that).
I do hope you get this sorted out.

  • basically had an accident 6 years ago, Our Insurance company put us through to an accident management company ( we knew nothing about ). We thought it was for a courtesy car we said we didnt need, butthe said was free.
Turned out it was a hire car, somehow we were found at fault ( we werent ) and receive a debt earlier this year for £10,612.02.
Got Ombudsman involved and I received an email letter from our Insurance company stating that the hire company were no longer requesting reimbursment from myself.
I send a reply requesting a confirmation from the accident management company themselves, and they then send me this new Invoice.
The husband phoned them, for them to say they know nothing about it and they said that they told the insurance company that they would discount the original invoice !
I have an email from both the insurance company and the ombudsman stating that the accident manangement company are no longer requesting money from myself.
    How do I stand ?

yeah that was my original post. I couldn't find it though. So was good news now this has happened. I can't quite see how they can chase me when I have had written confirmation and so has Ombudsman that they won't chase me etc

Another thing I noticed today was that the letter that states " accident management company has now agreed to not request reimbursment for the hire vehicle from you "
Was actually on the insurance " final decision Letter "
Is this a good thing ?
  • Can't see that anyone trying to claim it from you has a leg to stand on. Have you got back on to the FOS?

  • yes , I scanned the invoice to FOS who then pretty much had a go at my insurance company and told them to sort it as it disputes their claim on their final decision to me and FOS, if anything I think this puts insurance in trouble for giving me anf FOS the wrong information ( if it is wrong , it could just be the hire / accident management people playing games )
  • well its looking like these companies are allowed to change their minds after making final decisions , can't see how that is fair treatment of people :-(
  • A little annoyed now , I went to FOS to get this sorted, and I thought it was , but now FOS appear to be letting the other 2 companies mess me around and play games.
  • I contacted FOS the other day to ask what is meant bu a final decision letter , is it a good thing that they cant really do back on, and the response I got was on the lines of , when we have clarification of what is being requested we will contact you !! I thought nothing was being requested as stated on the final decision letter ! Am I reading too much into it, maybe I interpreted it wrong I don't know, but to me it looks like Hire ppl are allowed to change their minds after a final decision :-(
