Help me make my skin look better

  • What I've done for years is apply a light cream in the morning (I'm allergic to many sun screeners so it's a matter of checking the small print as a lot of creams have them by default) - the secret is to leave it to absorb for at least 20 mins before applying Nivea tinted day cream, which evens up the skin tone.

Admittedly, at the moment I'm using a £30 face cream - Clinique redness solutions, but I buy 2 pots a year and don't use nightcream, and it's worth it not to have weeping blisters! And the Nivea is usually bought on half-price offers. I use an exfoliating cleanser about twice a week, cheap and cheerful ordinary cleanser (e.g. Simple) the rest of the time.

I've got a pretty standard combination skin, incidentally.
  • Thanks, lots of interesting info there. I like Body shop stuff so I am pleased to see recommendations for their products, will check that out.

I have got some Boots points and I am quite tempted to try their Protect and Perfect stuff, especially as they have got a set on offer at the moment. I guess I could always ebay it if its no good!

I also use Boots botanics cleanser and used to use their day cream but found they changed the ingredients and it became too heavy for my skin.

    Thanks all.

Thanks, I may try it now. Do you use the aloe day cream too? I tend to use wipes at night or Liz Earle but get a bit fed up with those muslin cloths and I have just been splashing my face with water in the mornings but a nice gentle face wash would be nice, I just keep hearing bad things about foaming washes on sensitive skin :) I have a problem with my eye make up too, even the Liz Earle doesn't take it off properly, might have to use a separate eye make up remover.

I use Tesco cheapie baby lotion only 20p a bottle for eye makeup remover and it is better that anything I have paid a fortune for. I actually use it to take off all my make up and just pour about 2 teaspoonfuls into my palm, rub my hands together and smooth it all over my face for about 90 seconds. Then I add a little warm water and carry on for another 30 seconds before splashing with warm water to remove.
  • I have really sensitive, eczema prone skin and I love the body shop aloe range.
I use Olay eye make up remover which doesn't irritate me. I had the aloe face wash but I'm trying not to use foaming cleansers so have a Simple gel wash which is nice.
For moisturisers I have both the Aloe day and night cream, though as someone else does, I often use the night cream in the morning. The Aloe face mask is really nice though - I use it as a night cream and then when I wash my face in the morning it feels really moisturised. The mask is really gentle and feels lovely on, a great thing to leave on overnight.
I hate the bits of eczema I get on my face and if anyone has any other recommendations for easing it I'd be very interested. Doctors just give out steroid creams which I hate using but sometimes I just give in, to get rid of red, angry patches:(
I really need to sort out a new signature!

I get sebborhriac dermatitis - well I used to. I was advised to use Nizoral shampoo and this really helps. If I do not use it for about a month it starts to creep back. I think I am just prone it.

I wash my hair and face with in in the shower.

Try drinking a glass of lemon juice first thing in the morning/ It helps the liver, gives you clear eyes and skin.

  • The two products I use are No 7 Soft & Soothed Gentle Cleanser, it's a lovely peach colour and I find I don't get spots or dry skin using it, I always buy it with any £5 off coupons.
I also use Simple Hydrating Light Moisturiser before I put on any foundation.
Both last me for ages and are reasonably priced.

I tried the day cream but in my opinion it isn't as soft and melting as the night cream, maybe that's because it has added sun protection, so I stick to the night cream. The reviews for the aloe makeup remover are not great so I've never tried it, I've used the botanics organic makeup remover ever since I tried it, it removes my eye makeup very well. Before that I used Nuxe it was really good but the botanics is just a cheaper gentler version I found. Not sure about how efficient it is, but body shop has a new makeup remover line with camomile, looks interesting for eye makeup remover? I might give that a try next time for some variety :)

The day cream in the tub has no sun protection but the one ub the tube does. Do you not use sun protection? I like No7 aswell.

I use La Roche Posay spf 30 or 50 on top of the serum, but not in winter. They are great for sensitive skin. I was using Clarins UV Plus spf 40 before, but way too pricey for me now.

ETA: I use the serum as I would a moisturising lotion, it is not as liquid as say, estee lauder advanced night repair and is not fully absorbed by the skin ifyswim. It's great though, I love it x

It doesn't matter what you put on your face if you smoke and drink alcohol and eat junk food. Diet needs to be sorted first.
