I doubt it. You could send it special delivery, but that would cost you £4.30. Could you not do a money transfer from your account to theirs, either by paying it using the internet, going into a bank & paying the cash into their account or by using something like Western Union?
I don't know why you don't want to pay charges for sending it, but personally I'd advise you to pay it. £4.30 would give you guaranteed delivery by 1pm the next working day or your money back, & includes compensation for loss or damage. It seems a relatively small amount to pay to protect such a large sum & get it delivered so quickly & safely, especially as you can track it online so you know exactly what's happening with it & it has to be signed for on delivery.BSC #53 - "Never mistake activity for achievement."

Who is the basic account with?
I'm told that if it is Nationwide then you can get a counter cheque made out at the branch.
Also, most of the basic accounts available to BR's have internet banking. I know that I can make a direct payment to someone else's account using mine.
I've never tried it, but you may also be able to set up a money transfer at your branch.
I would call/visit your bank/building society and ask what options are available with your particular account, if you are still unsure.
EDIT: And as WDIAG says you can ask the other person to send you a paying in slip for their account.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

Hi
Im with the co operative bank so dont know if i would be able to do the nationwide thingy
I did just want to do a money transfer but the person who i owe money too wasnt happy for me to that!
So your saying just get a postal order and pay £4.30 that would be the best thing0 -
You can send the cash if you want to, but you must tell the post office clerk what's in the envelope & that you want to send it Special Delivery Next Day. Have a read here .BSC #53 - "Never mistake activity for achievement."

Surely you can get a free counter cheque in a Coop bank branch?
I have never tried because I get mine via Nationwide: However I try and pay everybody via BACS and internet banking.0 -
I used to be with Birmingham Midshires before they merged with halifax ands they used to charge £10 for a counter cheque. Daylight robbery or what.Sometimes you have to go throughthe rain to get to therainbow0
