Insurance - what do I need ?

Hello again - I'm after more help.

Assuming that eventually I will get a mortgage offer, what insurance do I need / would I benefit from, beyond building & contents ?

My situation :

I am single with no dependants.
I have death in service benefit from work which is more than my mortgage.
If I do get made redundant, I have some savings, and the redundancy amount would be equivalent of 7 months net salary, which if I'm not working, could last me for 12 months.

So the thing that would concern me is if I was ill and could not work long term.

What insurances would anyone recommend ?

"Own occupation" income protection (PHI) until retirement. Pick the deferred period which matches the time your employer would continue to pay you, or how long your emergency fund would last.

You can insure half your gross income as the benefit is paid tax/NI-free and be better off than when you were working because you'll have no travel costs to pay.

PHI/Income Protection - would cover you long term if you were ill.
Critical illness - would pay out a lump sum if you were to get one of the more serious illnesses (Cancer, Stroke, Heart attack etc).
