  • Has anyone had a really good offer from Vistaprint for photo calendars yet? Best offer I've had from them is 1 calendar for £7.99 which is pants compared to previous years.

I give a photo calendar with pictures of my sister who has a learning disability to various relatives for Christmas and usually spend about £20 on 5 or 6 including postage.

Normally by this stage I'd have had offers for 1 for 99p or even 1 free but not this year. Wondering if it's just me or have they limited the offers available.

I've bought personalised gifts before from Getting Personal website. My father in law loved the fishing calendar with his name on it!

A friend always makes personalised items for her mother when there is an offer and uses photos of her mother's dogs. Mother loves them.

I have also seen children with personaised story books which they liked. I think the stories were weak and the books expensive but if you are racking your brains could be a winner!
Probably more useful than fun are personalised lead and coloured pencils, not so easy to lose when the name is embossed!

The most useful gift I have given (which was much appreciated) was a personalised luggage strap. Great to keep case together when damaged by carrier! but above all else makes identifying a black case, along with hundreds of others at an airport carousel a cinch!
    Currently BOGOF here- £8.50+£3.95

I think it really depends on what you're personalising.

My sister does a calendar every year for my mum with photos they've taken during the year - they like to go to air shows so it normally ends up being at least 6 months of tiny dots in the distance which might be a plane or a seagull and then a few shots of flowers from their garden. You can imagine how that goes down!

I wouldn't want a mouse mat or a mug with something on, I like my mugs matching. I think there's lots more individual ways to send something personal than via a big company doing mass produced stuff.

I was going through a pile of 'stuff' and realised that I've got some German or Dutch family's personal desk calendar for last year.

Photos of various family members and their birthdays/anniversary dates are highlighted.

I wonder if they got mine in a straight swap?

I quite often get my dad personalised presents - he's so difficult to buy for! Usually he gets a calendar with pictures of the family, but last year I made a photobook with pictures of his holidays on, narrated by his cats (because they are always left in catteries when he goes, and they HATE the cattery!)... sounds ridiculous but he loved it!

I also love giving personalised mugs, I usually fill them with sweets and things. I gave my sister one a few years ago with her dogs on.

On Fiverrr there are loads of unique gifts, for my friend's Christmas present I got someone to make her and her boyfriend into cartoons. I've just ordered another for my boyfriend's birthday present!
  • I think it depends on the recipient and the gift, when we completed our family we had all sorts of "personalised gifts" none of which were any use but a close friend bought us a family tree papercut from The Crafty Calf and we all love that

You can also think of personalised engraved jewellery like silver engraved heart pendant in which the 2 names of your choice are engraved in elegant letters on the silver pendant.
