Mortgage default - error rather than lack of funds

Three years ago my boyfriend & me split up, we had two houses, he took one and I took the other. At the time of the split we couldn't afford to take the mortgages on on our own so left them as joint. So he has been paying for one and I've been paying the other.

I've decided to sell mine, which is through well and no issues. But he has recently informed me whilst trying to take on his mortgage alone that it has been turned down as he has default on the mortgage, it seems he changes bank accounts and the mortgage bounced for one month until the error was understood and the new account details sorted out. He is going to try and get the note about the default lifted as it was an error and not lack of funds.

But I'm about to apply for a mortgage and feel sick with worry that I'm going to be turned down due to his admin issue.

Any advise would be welcome as its late and I'm worried sick and can't talk to anyone until tomorrow

:-(

A default is only registered for three or more consecutive payments, a single late payment would only show as a late payment, a "1" on the account in his credit file. Are you sure this story is true?

The account will also show on your credit file as a joint borrower, have you obtained it to check?

As suggested, do not apply until you check your credit files. Experian and Equifax are the more commonly used, although Call Credit is additionally used by many Building Societies.

    Good luck

Just following on from what Dave said, some lenders only supply information to one CRA, so you need to establish which one your lender uses to enable you to check that one for the account information.
