Creditors and change of name.. please help... thanku

hello, i would really like some help with this; i changed my name 8 years ago. i had two accounts with Choice catologue; a standard Choice account and a Choice4You Account. i did inform them of the change of name including a copy of the deed and one letter was relayed to me but then all correspondance that followed was in the previous name. i have paid one of the accounts off and i am continuing to pay the other but i am worried that as i have continued to sign for items using the old name i have commited fraud? all my payments are in my bank card of my current name and i click on the button confirming that i am the account holder. the problem now being that i want to ask them if i can reduce the payments as i have had a dramatic decrease in wages and i do not know if i will be in trouble for highlighting the issue after so many years??? also im not sure if my existing name will be linked to the credit scoring based in my previous name??? thank you

  • You told them, so not your issue. You are still the same person after all :)

Just write to them again asking why they never changed it. Then complain if they have a go at you.

As for reducing payments, send everything in writing, as they say stuff on the phone they would not date write.

When did you open the accounts?

If they get heavy about reduced payments, send them a CCA request. Especially useful if opened before April 2007 as if they don't have a signed original they can't enforce in court and most before this date either didn't get you to sign or they do not contain the correct info.

As for credit score, check your report. It has a section on financial associates, so may have your previous name there. You can check Noddle for free and experian and equifax for £2 each.

    Good luck

You should be signing your new name.

It could be consituted as fraud to use your old one.

But i dont see how asking for a lower payment plan will cause them to check what name you signed for deliveries.

Just tell them again about the name change, providing the proof if required, and then ask for lower payments.
