My son has received a call from mortgage audit centre telling him he has a claim for a mis-sold mortgage. They are asking for £179 to sort the claim for him and obviously they will take a % if they succeed. Has anyone else had calls re mis-sold mortgages? Any advice how to claim without it costing.

You would write to whoever sold you the mortgage outlining the details of your complaint.
Be advised however, that many people regard the likes of the 'mortgage audit centre' as scam operations who collect £179 on the basis of a promise that will never be fulfilled.0 -
A cold calling company attempting to make money by preying on the weakMy son has received a call from mortgage audit centre telling him he has a claim for a mis-sold mortgage.Has anyone else had calls re mis-sold mortgages?
yes. They are virtually all scams. Most seem to operate the advance fee fraud model. That is they entice you with some potential large pay off giving what sounds like a reasonable story. Then, whilst your greed considers the big pay off, they slip in that there is an upfront fee. The person pays it thinking they are going to get back more than enough to cover that.
Problem is that apart from the lender name (which appears on land registry), there is no other data in the public domain. So, all these companies have is who the mortgage is with. They have no information on how the mortgage was sold, what documentation exists, why it was sold etc. They are not in any position to say whether he was mis-sold or not. Yet that is what they are saying.
If one of these cold callers calls 100 people a day and gets 10 people to sign up, then thats an easy £1790 income a day. That is where they make their money.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. 1) Claim for what exactly?
2) Why on earth would you trust some random company cold-calling who wouldn't know anything about the mortgage?0 -
2 words, or is it one?

Think about it.
Either they are lying or they have obtained your son's personal data unlawfully.
Either way, would you give them £179 and expect to get anything for your money?
Please get your son to report it to ActionFraud0 -
i have also had a cold call from a similar company only this time they gave me their website details and company house reference number. reason I joined this forum was to find out more details. this company claim that the mortgage was miss-sold by adding all the admin fees on the mortgage rather than paying up front. it will cost £495 to check but they will pay that back if i don't have a claim. i am still suspicious0

Nothing wrong with that. Many people do it that way. Its allowed.it will cost £495 to check but they will pay that back if i don't have a claim.
