  • Something else that is worth bearing in mind for NRPs/Paying Parents - if you get a letter asking you to supply information by a certain day, or to contact the CSA by a certain day, this is a notification that you should stick to. All CSA actions such as imposing a DEO or contacting an employer directly for information have processes to follow first ie giving the Nrp a chance to send in wage slips. If you don't think you can get the information back by the time period specified then RING the number on the letter to tell them.

I couldn't tell you how many Nrps I had who kicked off because I'd went to their employer for wage information who said it was because they'd not had time to send in their payslips as they were waiting for the next month or whatever, but who didn't think to call the CSA to tell them in advance.

Read this, Read it again, then re-read it. It amazes me how people only phone in, AFTER weve contacted there employers, or after the deo is in place, in the 90's the system was a mess, and ignoring us was fine, techknology has moved on, if you ignore the csa, in the end its only yourself who is going to come off worse, Its worth noting were not machines, if someone phones me up and asks for more time for any reason, immediatly they are given a weeks grace period, longer if its a truly good reason.

Just a note to pwc's aswell, if you recive a letter to contact us, you must do this, there is a good reason we need to speak to you, so same goes for pwcs.
  • Caseworker x .It's all stacked up against us nrp/nrpp I feel .When CSA wants something they got to have it like.. yesterday! When we request something we got to wait for it ..40 days for the case file ! Just too late to see it before your tribunal..... How can that be fair? We only want a FAIR system, not one open to abuse ,that treats us equally please tell someone at the top today at work!!

There is no such thing as a fair system, and never will be. Its only natural pwcs will think we side with nrps and vice versa, part and parcel of the job. No caseworker would honestly say the system is fair, but atleast it theoretically should tar everyone with the same brush.
  • Your case would be a new case so No backdating to worry about. If you have looked on the calculator and worked out that your payments would be £150 then your net take home must be £1000 per month as the current calc is 15% for one child, no deductions as you do not have him to stay overnight.

This still leaves you £850 a month, plus if your moving in with your girlfriend, her salary (assume she will be contributing 50% of rent/bills) to live on.

It is your exes legal right for child maintenance and as of april 2010 child maintenance no longer affects any benefits received so she would receive every penny. 15% is the legal minimum you should be paying.

This is great, thank you. I know it sounds like I'm left with a lot of money and to some people it is. But my rent is high and I have to have my vehicle for work - driving being part of it - which of course has its own regular and ad hoc hefty costs to live with. And that is a permanent 6 day week wage mind (60 hours a week most weeks with the occasional half day Saturday!).

I just wanted to say that I'm not trying to negate my responsibilities by any means - and am currently paying her and have done now for about 6 years (once she finally came back out of her self-imposed hiding). I just can't pay £150 a month plus my rent and living expenses and still actually have food. It's tight enough now. My girlfriend passed a milestone birthday recently and I simply wasn't able to afford to buy her more than a token present and that upset me (and her) greatly. My ex is living with a partner as man and wife in a much much cheaper part of the country and is simply using the CSA as a threat to demand ad hoc sums and raises (this is far from the first occasion) from me with no or little notice. As other commentators have stated, all rights and considerations appear weighted in favour of the PWC and little consideration given to the circumstances of the PP. I've had access denied to me, a request for him to be adopted (which proved only to be a test!) and am now in a position where I have no relationship with my son - I'm a total stranger to him - and this was not my choice. It would not be fair to impose access visits on him and not practical with the damaging relationship that I have with his mother. I have sadly had to resign myself to a lot of earlier heartache and am not a reluctant parent or someone trying to avoid my responsibilities. I do simply need to be able to survive myself not ONLY live to send money across the country most of which is used for extravagant gifts. The demand this time was to be able to buy him an expensive computer game system. He will only be 10, this is far from a basic need!

I'm grateful for the comments offered as between you you have reassured me greatly about two of my major worries and I truly now think I could in fact cope far better than I was afraid of. Thank you. :T

    Hello PAMMIL,
I take it that you are on CSA2 ( started in 2003) as that does not take your ex's partners income into account, That is why they are allowed to live together without any persecution from the CSA.

No, I have been in this mess with the CSA since 1995

Omg, as if you actually believe this, the CSA is as much a sham now as it was then
