I'm not sure, I think she has been declined a loan. As far as I know, she hasn't got any CCJ's or anything, she says the reason her rating is so poor is because the cards are maxed out.

If you help your girlfriend, which is an admirable notion, it is possible that she may not learn the lesson in respect of why she is in the circumstances that she currently finds herself. For many people the point is only driven home when they have to dig themselves out of their own mess.

However, if you wish to financially assist her then why not just make the payments on the loan she already has? That way you avoid being saddled with the debt if you split up (and if you do split up there is no way you will get your money back!) Also, if your circumstances change and you can no longer afford the payments your financial standing will not be trashed.

I would give very careful consideration as to where you go with this.
  • Thanks everyone. I think I will see what she can transfer into a 0% balance transfer CC and if she can get maybe 2 or 3.

That will start to eradicate some of the debt. I will also lend her some money myself but not for the entire amount - she can pay this off over time but if the worst came to the worst it would be no trouble for me to write it off.
  • JMF1976 - You sound like a very decent guy to try and help out where you can. Do you want to be my boyfriend ;)
Some times you have to hold back to go forward to where you want to be.
