Washing hair in hard water area

I don't wash my hair in the shower - it always gets far too knotted that way however much conditioner I use.
I do it over the bath using the shower attachment - a bit of a faff but it does seem to keep the tangles to a minimum. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
I've lived in London all my life and don't have a problem with matted or tangled hair, I never noticed any difference if I am on holiday for example and wash my hair its just the same as at home..#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

Thanks for all the suggestions. Some of them aren't preferable as I have OCD as well, so sorry, but I'm not sure I could use rainwater. From the suggestions so far, I think the filter thing is probably the best option for me. I'm already using a wide toothed comb. I'll get hold of some chelating shampoo as well I think.
The last post from Alton Towers - that was what I was wondering? Do people who've lived down here for years have matted, tangled hair? Or do the locals all have water softeners installed? I don't understand :undecided
I've lived in the SE all my life, have very fine hair and find that I actually prefer washing my hair at home than in areas where there's really soft water. If the water it too soft, even when I blow dry it, it can look flat and limp - and I adjust the amount of conditioner too. Guess it's what you get used to. I have friends with thick hair and they (generally) don't walk about like matted bushesFeb 2015 NSD Challenge 8/12JAN NSD 11/16

I've lived in the North for almost all my life. Even when I lived in the south and it was further west, so possibly softer water, I don't recall my hair being like this. I've come down South for weekends/holidays etc and never had any problem. This only occurred after about 4-5 weeks down here.I've lived in the SE all my life, have very fine hair and find that I actually prefer washing my hair at home than in areas where there's really soft water. This is what I was wondering. Does your hair get used to it? If so, I wonder how long it takes. My concern is how damaged my hair will be by the time it does adjust.
I've noticed my clothes smell different washed down here as well. It's really strange. It smells slightly 'chemically' to me.Though no one can go back and make a brand new start, anyone can start from now and make a brand new ending0 -

I spent many years living and working in London and my skin and hair never got used to the hard water. My sister bought that filter after 11 years of living in London.Trying to be a man is a waste of a woman0 -
I lived in the North East before I moved to the South East/Anglia, and I've never noticed any difference in washing my hair in any different places, or when I'm back north either. I'm not sure if the water is just as hard there as here though!
I think I prefer hard water, despite the having to try and clean limescale off everything. Like kerri gt, I feel like it rinses you better than soft water, and it tastes nicer to drink! Maybe it's true that different water suits different people.0
