oh dear I must be a right miserable old bag then because I personally hate cards (at home as well as in school) The kids faff about with them all day as they are much more interesting than Maths :D
There are ripped envelopes strewn all over the desks and floor and on the last day of term they are all left in their trays! But yes I know they love them *sighs with resignation* however one year we encouraged the kids to give one single card for the class and donate a pound to Oxfam so as a school we bought a goat and other bits, medical supplies etc.. but guess what?? They brought a pound and still got cards for everyone lol :rotfl:

I see the excitement and big eyes in each child when they receive a card, and the saddness in their eyes when someone in the class doesn't give them a card :( it breaks my heart, I always keep a spare box of cards in the classroom for children who don't receive cards from someone and leave it on the table for them when they aren't looking.

This thread has actually made me sad TBH and if my children were told not to give their friends a Christmas card, I'd tell the school to go jump and wise up to themselves!

Crikey this brought tears to my eyes! Very well written xx

    LOL sorry :o

Just what I see every year in work. Kids get very little enjoyment these days as they are made to grow up too quickly IMO. It's really maddened me when I saw someone wanted to stop this in their local school:(
People think that kids won't care, or won't notice. But for a change they should think about the children and not everything else

is there an alternative to sending xmas cards in primary schools, i know the kids love it but all that money wasted on cards could be better going toward pta. we are a c of e school and wondered if any others had tried alternatives. we are also an eco aware school so surely every child in every class sending one another cards has an eco impact too... even in a small school, 130 pupils, thats a heck of alot of waste.... any advice out there please?

We should probably all forget about wrapping paper as well.

Surely most cards these days are getting recycled?
