Email entries - anyone else having problems?

Lately I am getting a LOT of email entry competitions come back as 'returned' mail.

I've had DH have a look at them & for an example bigissue competitions 'look' like the email address is wrong but filmjuice competitions are all coming back with this message

- These recipients of your message have been processed by the mail server: competitions@filmjuice.com; Failed; 5.1.1 (bad destination mailbox address) Remote MTA filmjuice.com: SMTP diagnostic: 550-"JunkMail rejected - yoda.london.02.net (mail.o2.co.uk)\r\n550-[82.132.130.151]:42903 is in an RBL on rbl2.websitewelcome.com, see Blocked\r\n550 - see http://www.spamcop.net/w3m?action=checkblock&ip=82.132.130.151"

Today DD has entered some ngkids competitions from her own email address but my pc & SOME of them are doing the same but not all (Star Trek comp has been returned but 2 others haven't - so far!) Message coming back from ngkids is

- These recipients of your message have been processed by the mail server: competition@ngkids.co.uk; Failed; 5.1.1 (bad destination mailbox address) Remote MTA service74.mimecast.com: SMTP diagnostic: 550 bl.spamcop.net Blocked - see http://www.spamcop.net/bl.shtml?82.132.130.151 - http://www.mimecast.com/knowledgebase/KBID10473.htm#550

I know O2 are changing to Sky, could this be the issue or is it something different? Is anyone else having problems?

  • Having just found this link online (this is the first I've heard of o2 closing email accounts!)

Could this be the problem??? I am not techy at all so don't understand why it's doing this, would it be best to change my email address (which is a pain as it means changing on every website I have log in details for lol)?

Best place to go for advice is the techie board. They're really helpful and what they don't know between them isn't worth knowing. They've got me out of a jam more than once.

If it's not the johnettes ;) it is down to SpamCop - see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SpamCop

Basically, someone with an IP address the same or close to yours has been reported as spamming, so spamcop has blacklisted it and you have been innocently caught up in it. Websites that use spamcop will return your emails as possible spam. Fortunately "One of the unique features of the SCBL, however, is that a listing expires automatically when no spam is reported from that source for 24 hours" so the best thing to do is leave it until tomorrow and see if the problem disappears.

The blocked IP address could be your mail server, so you should be able to use another email provider, and your email provider should sort out the problem. If the blocked IP address is yours, then shutting down your modem/router and restarting may give you a different IP address, otherwise contact your internet provider telling them you want a different IP address and how do you go about it.

This has happened a couple of times to me, but it has usually cleared on its own reasonably quickly, and I've never had to take it any further.
  • I come back blocked on motorpoint but seem to be able to enter othr comps fine

Thank you for the reply, will look into this later & see what I can do.
