Unison Tax Healthcheck - any good?

A few months back I filled in an assessment form to see if I am entitled to a tax rebate. The company doing this is called 'Personal Taxation Services Ltd' (Unison Tax Healthcheck) and they say that for every £1 that you are entitled to back, they take 40p.
This company hasn't stopped hassling me about continuing with the process of sending P60s etc and luckily I haven't done this as something about this company doesn't seem right to me.
After a brief chat with someone who used to work for the Inland Revenue, he suggested that this seems to be a bit of a con, but i just wondered if anyone else has had dealings with this company.

Haven't used this company and never would use any company to do what the HMRC do for nothing.
This company is basically charging you 40% to organsie a tax rebate.
It's a con -stay well clear.0 -
Dont use it, we at HMRC will do it for free and give you the entire refund. The amount of people we see who've basically been robbed of their money is scandalous.0

I had a feeling that this company were not right and the fact they are making money off you is a bit dodgy.
I think it doesn't help that the assessment form came with a Unison newsletter, therefore giving out the impression that this company is providing a service which is in your best interests, but i think the percentage they take should suggest otherwise!0 -
HMRC is more than happy to help you calculate repayments. Call your local enquiry centre for an appointment to see an advisor. They can even show you how to work out your liability in the future.... We're good like that!Barclays - Reclaiming - £3380 - stayed 30/08/07 - £2261 goodwill 20/02/09
Abbey - Reclaiming £250 - 1st letter - stayed
MBNA - Reclaiming £400 - received £294
Morgan Stanley - Reclaiming £138 - received £120
MINT - reclaiming £110 - received £90
A&L - £170 charges - £170 back!0 -

I've had these before with EIS(teacher's union) stuff and also within local government papyslips.
It does give people the wrong impression as you say.0
