Can't get into my emails, help please.

A few days ago when I went into my emails, got a message from Microsoft:
'Call us overprotective but we need to make sure you can receive a security code if you ever lose access to this account.
Where should we send your code?'
There is a box to add an alternative email address which I did.
It then says;
'Check email for a message from the Microsoft account team and enter the code here'
Did all of this, entered the code they sent me and it then said it did not recognise the code and to check it and try again. Did all they asked. Now cannot get on to my emails. It goes straight to the same message.
Tried Microsoft support and everything I try takes me back to the same message.
What can I do?

On the alternative email address instead of copying the code click on the link underneath it which should take you to your email address so you dont have to put the code in.It will just come up with add new password.
I had same thing happen to me yesterday and thats the only way i got it to work.0 -
I added a new password than it takes me back to the same place again!0
