Can I claim back MPPI

I took out a mortgage with Bristol and West about 1987 and was sold payment protection that got paid monthly(£35). My question is, when I was sold this I was self employed so was ineligiblefor any payout when the company went bust, though 2 years later I could make aclaim when I was made redundant from my employer at that time.

Do I have grounds to make a claim on the above information? Thanks in advance for any help offered.

If the policy was sold in 1987, then it was sold pre-regulation - which makes a complaint very difficult.

If you then received a payout, it's hard to argue that the policy was mis-sold.

Did you receive more from the claim than you paid in? If so, the compensation payment will be zero even if you do make a successful complaint.

Self employed people were covered for illness and business liquidation under many of these policies.

    You bought pre-regulation.

You successfully claimed - which wouldn't have been possible if it hadn't been sold.

So any mis-selling claim is doomed.

  • Thanks Annisele and opinions4u you have confirmed my thinking that the policy was taken out before all the confusion about PPI claiming came into force.

Even if it was taken out post regulation, MPPI has the lowest success rate on complaints of any type of PPI. it is one of only two types of PPI still available to by today. It is generally considered a good thing to have when needed.
