When we start out on the Debt-Free Wannabe trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym.

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free. .

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending :money:

Morning lovelies :) Happy Monday. Tis a lovely crisp autumn day here. Sun is shining so I am going to get a load of washing on the line :)

My list for the day looks like this:

* checked banking - water bill has come out so updated s/s
* paid stoozing cc
* working from home so no petrol costs - opps running late haven't even got dressed yet :o
* work efficiently and get through 5 major things
* all meals from stores - need to dig around for this one! Soup for lunch
* speak to db re bathroom plans
* call odd job man I know and see about a quote for tiling
* return top today as only have 3 days where I can get a refund
* not make any prurchased while in town
* park at free parking
* post back very dress
* 30 day shred
* submit mileage claim
* list 2 things on ebay
* did vsp will update sig
* clean out car after work

Ok think that's my lot. Have a great day x

  • Hi everyone

    My day off today. Really annoying as just tried to reduce a standing order amount in my current account and told "cannot do this online" and have to ring an 0845 number. What is the point of internet banking? (moan over :) )

    Decided I am being a bit too ambitious with the monthly savings amount and it has left me short in other areas so if I get an annual bill or a vets bill I will be pushed to pay it.

    Anyway, here is a short list for today:-

    Do some housework (thanks for the tips yesterday!)
    Go to the gym and have a swim
    Do some batch cooking for lunches and teas this week
    Read my book

    Bye for now x

    Morning all :wave:

    It's Monday and there's snow on the mountains near us and it's bucketing down with rain. Oh joy! We have put our heating on for 15 mins here and there. (OH has arthritis so we can't let the temp drop too much.)

    Had a good DFW-style day yesterday, got most of my list done.

    Thanks for the starter DNM.

    The List:

    :staradmin Check online banking. Pay rest of credit card bill. Calculate next fortnight's finances. Will it fit? If not, make a plan. Done. Fine, better than I thought! Paid an extra £2.48 off my credit card.

    :staradmin Find out why new central heating came on s'morning when it was turned off. Mystery solved.

    :staradmin Wash on a cool wash with minimum powder. Dry on airer in back hallway. Done

    :staradmin
    Use draught excluder. Done

    :staradmin Read paper online. Done

    :staradmin Check Nectar Points balance. Done

    :staradmin Check progress of selling broken Freeview box on eBay.
    Done. 1 bid, 7 watchers.

    :staradmin Use free Android app instead of buying a RadioTimes. I like the TV24 App (Link) Done.

    :staradmin Re-fill damp collectors with un-refined salt. Done.

    :staradmin Find Winter hat, scarf and gloves. Done.

    :staradmin Enter ten Facebook competitions. Done.

    :staradmin Check credit card to see how many loyalty points I've got. Done. Got the card cos the rate was 0%, loyalty points was a bonus.

    :staradmin Put £50 in Savings account for a few days. Done.

    :staradmin Repaired OH's rucksack by taking parts of my old bumbag. Love my sewing machine! Done.

    :staradmin Write to Sky TV to get a dispute resolved. I must stop avoiding this!

    :staradmin See if I can blag a free membership to a local choir.

    Sanchsoot, if you use www.saynotto0870.com (Link) you can get the cheap numbers for the banks whether they are 0870 or 0845 or any other pricey number. Just click on "Search to find an alternative number" and enter the expensive number they gave you in the second box down.

    Here's a couple of cheap numbers for anyone who wants them:

    Halifax/Bank of Scotland: 01132 798302
    Nationwide Credit Cards: 01793 656789
    RBS Telephone Banking: 0131 549 8888

    RBS/NatWest Credit Cards: 01268 508023

  • Hi Gang!!

    Sorry I was MIA over the weekend - had two busy night shifts and our first rugby match yesterday - so had a busy one!!

    List for me today:

    :) Check online banking - all looking fine until payday!

    :) Put all the ironing away, tidy bedroom & sort winter wardrobes

    :) Photograph 20 x items to go on eBay! Argh! Cannot dodge this job anymore!!

    :) Wash stinky rugby kit and dry outside in the stunning sunshine and breeze

    :) Pop up to allotment, water herbs and salad which is growing nicely. Plant two chive plants which OH bought on yellow stickers for 5p each in between my garlic chives - yum!

    :) Get in ice cold bath :eek: to get rid of the "first-game-of-the-season" stiffness!! Also drink lots of mint tea (mint now from allotment) which I find helps my recovery after tough games

    :) File paperwork away from my box of "things I put off"

    :) Cook nice dinner from stores and treat OH to a lush night in as she did literally everything over the weekend whilst I was sleeping / socialising... woops! :cool:

    Think that's about it from me. I have two days off now, then it's my Birthday on Wednesday, so aiming to get everything done over the next two days!

    Hope everyone is well - will try and catch up on the weekend's thread today!
    Lots of MSE love xxx

  • Hi everyone,

    Thanks for starting us off DNMS.
    MrsGSR - Your dinner sounds lovely.

    Today's plan:-

    • Making use of free coffee, water & lunch at work (hurray for long boring meetings leading to free food)
    • Food from stores
    • Dinner from meal plan - Thai Green curry, mmm
    • Log calories & exercise on free apps
    • Checked birthday bingo
    • Check online banking
    • Check for new mystery shopping opportunities
    • Enter some comps
    • Do some surveys
    • Declutter & flylady
    • Check emails for reply regarding refund, if no response by tonight I will chase this up as it's been nearly 2 weeks now
    • DH hopefully doing some overtime today
    • Heating off, fleecey dressing gowns on instead
    • Debate applying for temporary promotion...I think I am going to go for it & hope not to be rejected again...in which case work on CV & covering letter
    • Today is day 1 of the 30 days challenge involving a fitness DVD I bought earlier this year, hoping it'll make me use it more & it's free exercise if you minus the electricity cost! :)
    • Go through meal plan for coming week & see what I need to buy if anything, there is no pole class for the next 3 weeks so I won't be going near Sainsbugs, so I'm trying to hold out as long as possible to avoid petrol costs
    Hope you're all ok & have a great MSE day x
