We have a debt problem and without boring everyone we have gone through Stepchange who quite frankly have been bl**dy brilliant in helping us come to a sensible solution to our creditors.
However what is p*ssing me off big time and getting me very down is the amount of calls we are getting from "collections" departments based in the Phillipines. i am generally a polite person but half the time I can't understand what they are saying and in one instance we had two calls within 30 seconds of each other. We have finally got the message across that Stepchange are dealing with our debts but now we are getting calls to the tune of "When are you going to pay and when are Stepchange going to contact us". Quite frankly it is making me feel ill and I'm afraid that I will eventually lose it and tell these people where to go. We are trying our hardest to sort things out and have cut down in a lot of things and have drawnn up a sensible budget but it just seems that we will never be left alone -I now dread answering the phone.
Anyone else in this situation?

Have you thought about changing your phone number? Mobile companies charge £10ish. Not sure about home phone...

You can ask these companies to contact you by letter only but I suspect in this case they will just carry on. I let the answerphone take a message and if it is someone I want to talk to I will ring them back, although that could work out to be rather expensive!DMP Mutual Support Thread No. 421

I'm with stepchange, and like you had the calls, Ive been with them just over a year now and for me the calls stopped within about 2 weeks of the first payment being reached to the account, - a lot of people will say i'm with stepchange, payplan etc etc to buy time, so of course theve put those peoples accounts on hold awaiting money - no money turned up - so any trust factor has gone for those like u me and a lot of other people as theyve had their fingers burnt,
Just say you dont want any more phone calls, your deal with post (or email) only, and also write to the company that has the account, there is a template (think its on the sticky of the debt free board).
It does get easier xxxx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx0 -
can you have caller display on your phone? Personally I don't answer any numbers I don't recognise or withheld numbersTallyhoh! Stopped Smoking October 2000. Saved £29382.50 so far!0

The calls do stop - once they have received the first payment, they stop - honestly !
The worst one for me was BOS - one day I had 13 calls from them.
Keep strong and in a short while, you will have peace of mind and then before you know it, you will be debt free. The feeling of being in control of your debts is such a relief - I got more of a feeling of relief in knowing I was in charge of my debts than I did when I became debt free.[STRIKE]DFW Nerd number 729[/STRIKE]Debt Free & Proud0
