Who to go for a quick approval/good service?

My currently mortgage is with the Nationwide taking out back in 2007. They were excellent back then who approved the application within 2weeks. Reading the thread here about Nationwide approval times I'm a bit concerned going back to them as I need to have a mortgage in place within 4-6 weeks time.

Just wondering who else is good in terms of approval speed or quick at advising if there are any problems.

We are looking to borrow below 70% LTV and have decent income with clean history and no outstanding debts which should hopefully smooth the process.

  • natwest through a broker have been good, Natwest in branch have had silly waiting times
Halifax were slow for myself (5% deal though back in the day)
    Santander can be reasonably fast

If you want the longest waiting time try H S BC hahaha

    all IMO of course

  • Do brokers get quicker responses from lenders?

My original nationwide application was through a broker so maybe that's why it was quick.

I would think brokers have the magic phone and fax numbers the banks don't want Joe Public to have, so I'm guessing the right broker with the right contacts can get things done a lot faster...
  • I used Lloyds a few months ago but did my application over the phone with them. They give you an appointed time when they ring you. It took about half an hour and I had a decision in principle straight away. The survey was done within a few days.

It all went well and I was impressed by the service.

I applied using YBS in February. Did online application on Sunday and received the mortgage offer on the following Saturday! I was very impressed.
  • We used Nationwide in 2007 and had a decision within 2 weeks. We are using them again via a broker this time and we have been told we should have an answer by tomorrow evening which is 17 days from submitting our application but this has been held up by needing an employers reference and fax machines being unreliable.

If you need a slick service - use a broker.

Little value in other peoples success or horror stories as each case has it's own profile.

A broker will see the hits and hurts before you put an application in with a lender.
