Storm warning - Argyll & Bute

Lots of disrupted/cancelled ferries etc here and storm warnings issued.

Preparations in the Zaxdog abode: candles, fire made up and ready to light, candle drawer full, extra blankets down from loft, had a hot lunch just in case.

Will be an anti-climax now if the power stays on :p

Take care, I'm a good deal south of you and it's getting a bit 'lively' here!
    Forecast up there looks unmerciful.

Thanks guys, checked the forecast and it is now down to only gusts of 50mph so not too bad :p Used to live on Lewis so this is child's play :j

OH's radio shack runs from a car battery so he will be able to keep us up to date with events if the power goes off.

Worst we had was four days of power off on Lismore, no ferries so no repair crew and we couldn't go on the emergency boat and leave the animals. Worst of it was no water (electric pump) so had to troop to neighbours who had bore holes and lug buckets of seawater to flush the loo. When the power back on within the first half hour we had both showered, the washing machine was on and there was a pasta bake in the oven :rotfl:

    zaxdog,

I lost my water supply for a few days some years ago, it was the most distressing thing ever! I would rather be without heat and power, but water is a total nightmare.

It'a amazing how much you take it for granted and have no idea how difficult life is without running water isn't it?
  • I'm on the east coast and it's horrible out - drove down to my parents & back earlier and there were a few really bad gusts that actually moved the car  Hate that *shudder*

    stay safe and warm

Just checked the Calmac website and the Ullapool - Stornoway freight ferry over the Minch is cancelled so I'd imagine the fishing boats will stay in tomorrow too...........

Not a huge amount of wind here but plenty of rain, not looking forward to the walk to work tomorrow :o

Everyone affected please stay inside, stay safe and report back on how you got on when it eases off xxxx

I'm moving up there next year! And I remember the storm of May 2011 when power lines were down for two days. The salt water being whipped off the sea by the gales actually bleached and 'burnt' hedges.

So many trees over the roads. Quite wild. Time to batten down the hatches.

I've been in Stirling this weekend and left a little early because of the storm there. Now in Glasgow where it's bright but very very windy. Travelling back to Newcastle tomorrow by which time I hope it's all blown over.

Was thinking of you this afternoon when my heavy garden chair was caught by a gust and blew over. DH thought I was going dotty when I told it to stop showing off!
I can cook and sew, make flowers grow.
  • Hope everyone is safe this morning - they've headed out to the boat to make sure its still there :). Really windy here and lashing with rain - cold too!!
    Stay safe, WCS
