MaineBlue's Cineworld Ticket Giveaway Thingymajig Thread Number 2

Ok MSE folks, seeing as I am a numpty and ended my other one 24 hours too early, I have to give away to one lucky MSE comper another a pair of codes for Cineworld. The 2 codes will give you entry to watch any 2D film (valid up until performances on 30th September).

I won’t need any personal details as I can just PM you the codes, thus not breaking any MSE rules.

To make it a bit more interesting (i.e. rather than people just post ‘Me please’, which you can do to enter, but if you can PM me the ‘code word’ to my tricky little quiz you get 5 entries, but don’t forget to comment in the thread too, as I’ll keep track of entries that way) I have devised a little Music quiz. You can comment in the thread as many times as you like, but you'll only get 1 entry. The only way to gain 5 entries is to PM me the code.

What you need to do is work out what the ‘code word’ is by answering the 16 questions below.

1. Which worldwide famous group started off life as The Blackjacks?
2. Musicians from The Idle Race and The Move formed which band circa 1970?
3. Who left the stage after only one song at Australia's 2010 Splendour in the Grass festival?
4. Which hugely famous rock band broke up after just their first ever performance at the Electric Garden in Covent Garden?
5. Which 1960’s band had an instrumental Number 1 single on both sides of the pond that was named after a satellite?
6. Which Blackpool born musician could be seen on TOTP performing ‘Dear Prudence’ in 1983?
7. What did Bazooka Joe’s bassist change his name to?
8. In the Dr Who episode ‘Cold War’ Professor Grisenko wanted to know if what band had split up?
9. The lead singer was born July 15, 1947 and the jug player was born September 15, 1943. Name the band.
10. Recorded circa 1973/74 but not released until almost 6 years after his death, name this album, which is also named after the street he grew up on?
11. Named after an 18th century agriculturist, this band released an album in 1980 that was called a single letter. What was that letter?
12. Made up of calcium carbonate in minute crystalline form and fruit preserves, this band had a 1996 album called “missing word Code”. What is the missing word?
13. His untimely death on 18th May 1980 prompted the remaining band members to form which group?
14. Which psychedelic rock band derived their name from hypothetical cereal brands?
15. Nesta attended Stepney Primary and along with a rabbit he was a forming member of The Teenagers. Who is this?
16. Grand Officer OMRI, I am perhaps best known for my work on 1960’s films which coined a well known phrase by Alfonso Sancha; although I am set to score the music for a popular short story by Oscar Wilde in 2014. Who am I?

OK, this is what you need to do......

Take the first letter of each answer in order and this will spell out a three letter code word which is the answer that I want you to PM me (4 letters, 9 letters and 3 letters). No need to PM me the answers to all 16 questions, I only want the ‘code word’.

For example; if you think the answer to Q1) is Rolling Stones then the letter would be ‘R’ and if you think the answer to Q2) is Auteurs then the letter would be ‘A’ meaning the first two letters of your ‘code word’ are ‘RA.....’

(Ignore any band answer that begins with ‘The’, e.g. if you think the answer to a given question is ‘The Chocolate Watch Band’ then the answer will be ‘Chocolate Watch Band’ giving you a ‘C’.)

OK, good luck folks. I’ll keep this open till 9pm (ish) on Tuesday night, at which point I’ll select a random winner and post the answers.

Oh, and DO NOT post any answers in the thread please

I've pmed the answer (hopefully) but don't include me in the draw ta.

What do we think guys? As MB clearly has too much time on his hands, should we ask him to take on running a weekly MSE quiz?

    Thanks - was fun

Have I made this one too tough / cryptic do you think? I thought I'd make it more of a challenge this time but hardly anyone's entered, so I'm thinking maybe I was a bit too tricky.

Wasn't tough for me at all :p (I solved it after the first 4 letters - although I did play on and got most of the other answers, but I already had the starting letters by then. When can I leave the naughty step BTW? My feet ache.)

MB, I would consider this a practice run. As you do it week by week, I'm sure you'll get the level just right for us :D
