Better to have loads of choices that increase the chance that you'll find something you like rather than few choices of which you don't like any.

Having more choices does mean you will find something you like, and having less choices does not mean you will not like any of them.

Couldn't agree more, take away the basic food groups/products and most supermarkets are just crammed full of over marketed, over processed, pre-prepped products. Seems to be what the majority want though.

People power. When supermarket launch healthier alternatives the general public has to start buying these products in higher amounts.
Some products the healthier lines are established now. e.g. reduced fat milks etc.

Plus a lot of people who want healthy foods. Often have less processed foods so will just buy raw veg and meat and cook themselves.
I live near some big super markets. So I have a good choice of veg / lean meats and fish to choose from if I so wish.

Also ready meals are getting better as well. They are likely to be lower in salt, additives and fats these days, while fairly often they will be making sure they have 1 or 2 portions of your 5 a days present.
    These things take time.

Not sure I grok the OP. Yes, with the coffee - high cost and a very varied taste, easy to end up with a flavour you do not like at all. But as to sugar - does anyone end up buying an unusable bag of sugar? Are others buds so much more refined than mine? There are detectable differences - but not that the sugar would be unusable or even to much affect the rate it would be consumed.
