  • can i have some of that free electricity too please?

oh and whilst am on - i could also do with a free laptop & free broadband please

this has got to be a wind up :o
  • You must be claiming some benefits. Have you checked you're getting all you're entitled to, as you should be able to afford £5 a month towards this. I'm surprised it's got this far - Eon threatened to cut me off for a £200 bill...

Michael - what a good idea that meter configuration is!

  • do you not qualify for any help towards the council tax?
Basically you are going to have to be really strict with your outgoings:
    ie 70 income:
    5 electric
    50 food etc etc
Have you been to anywhere such as your local CAB for help with your debt problems or phoned somewhere like NAtional Debtline or StepChange?

I'm surprised EON alllowed it to go to over four and a half grand. That must be nearly five years of unpaid electricity. I think a pre-paid meter is definitely the way to go.
I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.

So, are you asking that Eon give you free electricity?

Just out of interest, if you'd been on a pre-payment meter ever since you lived in your current property, what would you be doing for electricity now? If you'd never had the opportunity to pay by direct debit and had to put money on your key every week/month, what would you be doing now?

You somehow have the internet as you're able to post on here. How about you do one of the following:
    a) disconnect your internet (you'll probably have to do that anyway because there's no point having it if you have no electric)
    b) if you're using a phone to access the internet cut down on the amount you're spending on credit each week/month - this would help to pay for some electric and pay off some of the debt, even if it is a small amount
    c) sell your laptop/tablet/phone (whichever one it is you're using to access the internet) and use the proceeds to pay off some of your debt

I think you need to own and admit the fact you owe a company almost 5k and, if you don't pay it, you're going to be without electricity. You really need to realise this fact and stop trying to get out of paying it because the longer you try getting out of it, the deeper in the s**t you're getting.

So have you had the disconnection notice from them? was that more than 7 days ago?

If you can demonstrate that you have a long term ill health or severe financial problems then you may qualify for additional protection from being disconnected.

Having ignored this debt and not dealt with it for such a long time does mean there is a possibility that you won't have chance to prove to them that you are eligible for this extra protection before you are cut off.

I would suggest a read through of this article - http://www.adviceguide.org.uk/wales/consumer_w/consumer_energy_and_water_supply_e/consumer_energy_supply_e/consumer_energy_bills_e/consumer_problems_paying_your_energy_bills_e/can_your_energy_supplier_disconnect_you.htm

You also need to ensure that you are getting the benefits you are entitled to. If you are JSA and have housing benefit why are you not also getting council tax benefit?

There are other ways to pay off fuel debts (e.g direct from your benefits - although in your case you may owe too much for this to be viable) but at the very least you are going to need to work out a way to pay for your ongoing usage of electricity.

E.g. Are you able to move to a cheaper property? one where your housing benefit will cover the whole rent?

There is also a possibility that you may be able to get a grant towards your electricity arrears, but that won't be immediate help. You might also want to consider seeking advice from one of the debt advice charities and possibly considering a DRO, but again you will still need to work out a way to pay for your ongoing electricity usage.

Agreed. £5k electric bill? Thats a good 5 years of not paying a bill.

What about water? Phone bill? Internet etc?

If the OP is legitimate (I have my doubts), they need to completely review their living situation as it is unsustainable. It sounds like a shared house or lodging would be more suitable for them.

No right to electric, be very surprised if they don't forcefit a pre-pay.
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

Im finally getting what I deserve!

No, you're not. You're getting far more than you deserve. No wonder the country's going down the plughole.
