Second job...?

Still fairly new to this forum so I'm sure this has been asked before but I thought that I may as well ask just in case!
I'm a young professional in around 6-7k of debt (personal loan and payday loans). I am trying to pay this off asap to ensure i dont waste any more of my life paying off debts!
So I figured, why not get a second job. I work full time as it is, in central london, i have a stressful job. However I want to be debt free SO badly, that I'd be willing (for a time at least) to work a second job. Has anyone tried this whilst also battling with a full time job? If so any suggestions of where i should look?
I'd maybe a have a couple of hours spare in the evening as well as weekends. It'd be interesting to hear peoples views/experiences.
Thanks
YTK

I've seen quite a few people on here saying they are doing this.
The most common/obvious things seem to be things like working in bars/restaurants or even shelf stacking in a supermarket.
Alternatively does your job lend itself to something you could do independantly self-employed in your own time (such as an IT professional offering computer training & support or a teacher offering tutoring or an accountant offering bookkeeping services etc?).
Given the time of year the other thing you could think about would be looking for a temporary part time job over xmas. Lots of shops/service jobs recruit additional staff for xmas and that way its an extra income but isn't a long term commitment on your time.

Yes, I work full time and did a second job of office cleaning in the evenings for a while. It was ok actually and the hours were not to hideous - 7pm-9.30pm 5 days a week.Debt 30k in 2008.:o Cleared all my debt in 2013 and loving being debt free

I spent most of my 20s working in nightclubs as well as having a day job.
I got paid to be in the place I'd have been in anyway instead of paying to go there!Make £25 a day in April £0/£750 (March £584, February £602, January £883.66)
December £361.54, November £322.28, October £288.52, September £374.30, August £223.95, July £71.45, June £251.22, May£119.33, April £236.24, March £106.74, Feb £40.99, Jan £98.54) Total for 2017 - £2,495.100 -
I have a full time job and a second job working Sat afternoons in a shop. I also took on the job to get out of debt. It started as a Xmas temp job and they kept me on. I also doysyeey shopping and some freelance work on Elance. On hindsight I would probably have taken an evening job instead of a weekend job though. I've found it to be fine. Ifts nice having quite a physical job that doesn't require any brain power as a contrast to my day job which is sedentary and uses my brain. If you find it too much you can always quit.0

I have a second job doing the cleaning at the office where I'm a legal secretary/trainee police station rep. I do this twice a week for 3 hours.
It's hard sometimes when I go out at 8, get home at 8, and still have to fit in studying... Ill probably pack in the cleaning when I'm qualified for my new job.
I'm saving for a mortgage, not in debt, but it's definitely worth it if you have the opportunityWhat will your verse be?

I think that it's an excellent idea in general, and far, far better than people's plans that you often seee on here to take on more debt to "consolidate" borrowing.0

I work in another office within my company at the weekends. Stack up about an extra 40 hours or so but they are only weekend shifts. And include nights but are on a "first come first served" basis. I can't give them up although I am permanently exhausted - they pay too well but would love another (3rd?) job during week nights - maybe a cleaning gig but I can't find one...“Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent".0

Nearly did once. I was working for a major automotive supplier in the west midlands and working with a local university with a number of PHD students that we were sponsoring. It was suggested to me that I could do an evening lecture for £22 an hour (in 1993) for 3 hours once a week. My boss at work was happy, because he thought the experience would improve my skills of communication. It was all set up, and the student representatives decided that they couldn't possibly be made to attend lectures which finished at 9pm on a tuesday, as the females would be mugged or worse travelling back to their homes. So it was canned. That's the closest I've ever come.0

I used to work 2 jobs. My normal 9-5 then 4 nights a week in a bar. It was great for making extra cash but it was tiring and I didn't get much time to spend with my husband. I thought about doing it again to get rid of my debts but honestly I can't face it. I'm happy chugging along doing my online surveys and selling stuff on eBay to make extra cash.
I'd suggest to go for it, but get a job that can be flexible, ie bar or shop work. At least then if you are finding it too much you can cut the hours down or if you're finding it easy bump them up!0 -
I am not sure if anybody has mentioned this, but in the contract of some employers it states that you are not allowed a second job, I know it does in mine. I would study your contract at your current employers before you go making any decisions on this.0
