Prices were rising anyway. Higher prices always encourage more people into the housing market.

Just like rising share prices encourage people into the stock market. The best time to buy is obviously when most people are telling you not to. I believe Dithering Dad/Renovation Man was slated on here for using that tactic but not only bought a house at the bottom of the market at a time of historically low interest rates, he has also doubled his pension because he accurately called the bottom of the stock market too and benefitted from that.

It pays to be a contrarian, but it also pays when you have the courage to follow your convictions with hard cash. Plenty on here who like to make predictions (usually dire ones) but they never seem to back up their convictions with hard currency.

Our Hero did and he's going to be set for life once this recession runs its course. We should all rejoice that an ordinary working class bloke has beaten the system! Hurrah! :)

Encourage is one way of putting it, panicking is another.

No panicking FTB's on the new estates near me - seem to be plenty of houses to choose from.

I know a Taylor Wimpey rep who tells everyone that houses are selling like hot cakes. Her last gig lasted four years. She's just moved to a new site and expects to be there another four....

    Rejoice!

Disclaimer: The title is that of the article, not mine.

In fairness, it shouldn't now be needed considering the market.

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/property/buyingsellingandmoving/10301546/Help-to-Buy-may-have-to-be-scrapped-Vince-Cable-warns.html
And yet again you take notice of politicians and journalists instead of looking at what was actually said.
MCable told Sky News: "We should certainly think about how it should come into effect, indeed whether it should come into effect in the light of changing market conditions. We don't want a new housing bubble."
So again you have quoted an article and tried to deceive people into thinking Vinve Cable wants to scrap it instead of 'thinking how it should come into effect'. Vince Cable still wants it to cme into effect but needs to be looked at how. There's a big difference!

Please stop trying to lie to people.

I tell you what guys, if you are so offended by my posts
I'm not offended by your posts. I think you're one of the simplest posters on here who doesn't understand very much about the dynamics of the economy and politics.

I'm happy to educate you from your low level of intelligence so that you're a better person.

I'm a long way from being sure but a spokesman for No. 10 saying it's going to happen doesn't really change the likelihood either way.

What you can be sure of is that George Osborne's project won't be pulled in on Vince Cable's say so. If/ when it's pulled it'll be sold as a good news story and Vince Cable won't be allowed anywhere near it.

It's the prime ministers spokesperson. George Osbourne only on Monday was defending the scheme and stating the next part will move forward.

They are setting themselves up for a lot of hassle releasing all these statements of how they will push ahead if actually they plan to scrap it in 3 months time.

Not saying they won't, but not sure why they would go to such lengths to shoot themselves in the foot like this.

In the face of critism of the scheme from:
    - The IMF
    - RICS
    - Barclays
    - The Institue of Directors
    - Mervyn King
    - The Housing Federation
    - Shelter
    - The Local Government Association
    - The Parlimentary Committe
    - Savills
    - LSL
    - The Treasury Select Committee
    - Next

....and more.... the answer is always that they will press on. Seems to me time is running out for them to do a very embarrasing U-Turn now after stating so adamently it will go ahead regardless.

Maybe they one thing they could do is run ahead with it and make the mortgages expensive enough that people shy away.

If anyone is interested, Vince Cable will be discussing this on Geoff Randall live tonight (whenever that is!).

Wonder if he's been told off!?

I've added one more important institution to the list of institutions that have criticised the scheme. They'll now take notice I'm sure...

Wow, you guys are really without humour aren't you?

I hazard a guess that you're all single. Am I right?
