Council Tax Band - property size

Hi, I'm trying to decide whether or not to ask for my council tax band to be reassessed. I am the only house in my row of terraced houses with a Band C.
My house does have an extension on the back which is a dining/living area. But the previous owners 20 years ago did DIY through the whole house to put wooden panelling in, diy doors, diy floor boards..Now its quite outdated and not in a great condition, but we are hoping to work on that.
One of my neighbours across the road, in the same ex hydro house but without extension in good decor sold for £7000 more than mine did less than a year after I bought mine.
So basically I was wondering what things count when assessing my band? Floorspace is more, but Garden and decor less? One bedroom was also previous made into one and a box room, although neighbours have done the same and are still at band B.
Any advice would be much appreciated.
Sarah

Without knowing the year you bought, it is impossible to know whether it was a falling or rising market. For CT purposes size is important, decor is not and if you are in England or Scotland bands are based on 1993 values, so the decor would have been new at that time.
There is probably nothing to lose by asking for a reassessment, but I wouldn't be too optimistic. If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0
