NI contributions on mystery shopping

Hi

Im hoping someone can answer my query. I already work full time for an employer and pay tax and NI.

I want to start mystery shopping for a bit of extra money. I know ill have to do a text return. Will I also be classed as self employed? and Will I have to pay NI on these earnings as well?

Thanks

Comments

  • You should be able to request an exemption certificate from HMRC if you are already paying NI.
  • Yes, assuming the mystery shopping pays you in cash and you arent an employee of theirs then you will be a sole trader.

If your income from it is going to be low then you can apply for small earnings exemption from the Class II NIC and when you do your tax return everything else will be calculated automatically
