Returning Item Back To Argos

Hi,
I need some good advice before I go to Argos to ask for a full refund for my air cooler I recently purchased.
It has not performed the task it stated instead this air cooler is rubbish it gives out hot air instead of cool air despite following all the directions on the instructions. I am very unhappy about this product as it has given me coughs because of the wind it blow out!
I purchased this on a credit card as I am aware I can log a dispute with my credit card company as well if Argos refused a full refund.
Argos do have a 16 day money back guarantee return the item unused and unpacked and a full refund will be given. I am going to put everything back as it was and ask for a full refund.
I fear if i tell them that this air cooler is not performing the way it was described I wont get a refund they will say its not our fault contact the manufacturer etc blah blah blah.
So any ideas what the best thing to tell them?

Do not claim not to have used it when you have.
However if the cooler doesn't cool it is not doing what you paid Argos for it to do. Do not accept them telling you to contact the manufacturer - they sold it to you and are legally responsible. (And, depending on the brand, they might be the manufacturer (under a different brand name) in any case.0 -
well i wont get a refund because under the policy its unused and unpacked!0

Take it back anyway and see what they say - they have a 16 day gaurantee period. It's not working properly.0

The 16 day guarantee is in addition to your normal rights of returning faulty goods which this is. If something isn't fit for the job it's sold for you should return it and tell them and request a refund. It is up to them to refund you so don't let them try to fob you off with getting it repaired.0

argos are generally very good when it comes to returns and refunds
not long ago i took a tv back (only had it 3 weeks and the picture kept jumping) had no box but took it all back and they offered me a refund or a replacement of the same one which i took
but turns out i got a similar spec model of the same manufacturer but looks a better model so i was quite happy0 -
take it back and say its just not working properly, Argos are usually pretty good about refunding without checking.
I bought a batter charger once, put some rechargeable batteries in and plugged it in but the "charging" light didn't come on, so I took it back and got a replacement, no questions asked.
It was only when I actually read the instructions with the new one that I realised there was a protective film over the battery connections which I was supposed to remove before use
oops.... Wiggly:heartpulsFB0
