If you really can't afford car tax, you should declare it SORN, even if it's just for a month. Park it off the road on private property.
That way you'll avoid an automatic fine, which I'm sure is the last thing you need!0 -
Well it sounds like you are definitely ready to start your new Life....
Please don't beat yourself up too much - I have done payday loans and lots of them and it was only through sheer luck that I got myself out of that situation....but I have vowed never to go back...even when its tempting.
As others have said - Phone the Council. I used to have a Council Tax Debt and I phoned them and made an arrangement to pay and they were very very good with me, as long as you stick to the amount that you agree they will stop chasing you.
Good Luck with Step Change....I know they are VERY good and the best thing of all is that once you are on a Debt Management Programme with them you can relax....all you have to do is make your one monthly payment and then your other money is your own....
Good Luck and I'll be subscribing to see how you get on.... x0 -
Congratulations.
I haven't time for a lengthy post, but having been in a DMP for 12 months, I can't tell you the peace of mind it brings. No more letters, no more phone calls - just the knowledge that you're starting to get your life back in control.
Get the forms posted, it is terrifying, and wait for the huge grin that you'll have when you walk home from the postbox.
You'll find more support on these pages than you ever thought existed.

Hi All, Just read my replies and that has given me the courage to contact the Council and explained my dire situation, phew!!!! I have said that I would pay some money, not a lot though to them when I get paid, they have explained that they are in the process of doing the summons's so no doubt I'll be getting one of them through, this in itself carries an additional charge but they have said when I get that I am to ring them and they would sort some sort of arrangement plan out.
I have received a snotty e-mail from Wage Day Advance saying that even though I have cancelled the direct debit to them they are going to re-set the thing up again (I didn't think that they could do that - can anyone confirm for me please whether they can or not?). I have sent them a reply saying that under no circumstances do I give my authority and sent them a template leter from Step.
On another point can someone please let me know how I can find my thread without my having to find it.

They can only re-instate the DD with your permission.
Tell them they do not have it. You are covered under the DD guarantee if they take money like that.
Also tell your bank that you refuse them the permission to re-instate it, so hopefully they can prevent it.
That said, keep an eye on your account online to see if they do manage to set it up again.:beer:0 -
Thanks Happy-Bunny.
Just checked bank account and I have 20p to last until pay day (which isn't until 2 more weeks) what the heck am I going to do now, I've just received my bank statements and they are going to charge me over £48 in charges next week.
Also my husbands van tax is also due at the end of the month, mine was due last month, by the time I'm paid I'm going to be left with no money again.
I've got doctors and hospital visits next week with no money to put petrol in the car (which has no tax), and no money for diesel in the van.
God I sound so fed up don't I, well I am today.
I'm also scared stiff because I know I'm going to be receiving more and more and more snotty e-mails and snotty letters what the heck do I do then.LBM 10/9/13 £40,571 (SCARY). NOW DECEMBER 2016 £31,805.

Don't worry about the letters. 99.99% are computer generated drivel full of may or might do this etc. Same for the emails.
They will dry up a bit no doubt once step change get things sorted.
they are supposed to leave you alone when you go through a debt charity, so just reply to emails saying step change will be in touch soon. Ignore the letters, not worth wasting a stamp at this stage.
Have you tried calling your bank about the charges telling them about step change?
be careful if you have an overdraft with them though, they might cancel it, so make sure you have an account not linked to any of your creditors.
Good luck

o.k work out what money you will need until payday.
What food have you got in? Are there any essential bills to pay before payday?
Can you get a lift from family/friends to the hospital/doctors?
I'd advise against borrowing more money unless you really have to at this stage.
In terms of next month, you will get paid so hopefully you will have enough money to pay some of the van tax? can you pay monthly?
Things will settle down in time.

It's not worth driving the car without VED. There are number plate cameras everywhere these days, and you will soon by slapped with an £80 penalty charge. As has been said, SORN it and manage without a car until you can tax it again.I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.0
