Is there anything similar to CAB one can go for free advice?

For employment you could look at the ACAS website, or give them a ring. I think the helpline is open until 8pm.
Some CABx have an e-mail advice service which might be better for you?0 -

While a solicitor may give you an initial free consultation that is just to suck you in, everything else you have to pay for.
Apart from CAB there are also law centres scattered around the country, for example

There is the money advice service, which is free and independent

These guys are great also if you're SW - I'm sure they could put you onto a similar project in your area
