Gel Polish Kits

Hello,
I am looking at buying a gel nail polish kit, so that I can do my own nails at home. I have my naturally long nails, so just need a polish kit (not extensions) Im looking at spending around £40 ideally. There seems to be a lot of brands for sale on ebay that im not familiar with so I was hoping if someone on her had some experience that they could tell me which ones might be ok to use.
Ive only ever had Shelac and Gelish done in the salon before, so would be grateful for any advice.
I don't mind buying all of the bit individually if it works out cheaper, if anyone wants to recommend the right bits and pieces.
Thanks

Debt free since July 2013! Woo hoo! The bank actually laughed when I said I have come in to cancel my overdraft.

I have Shellac and BlueSky vanishes, UV lamp from Amazon and 1l bottle of alcohol and aceton also from Amazon. That is not Shellac labeled, just your normal 99% alcohol..
And good quality nail oil for nutrition and restoring nails that I use after each application (as alcohol and aceton dry out nails).
I only recently bought some Bluesky as I was worried about it not being Shellac, but so far I am very happy with them.0 -
What about Red Carpet Manicure? I swear by it!
They have a starter kit for £65; a bit more than what your budget is but it's a great deal. They have lots of colours and nail art kits for sell as well.
I'm new to the forum, so not sure if I'm allowed to link to it, but google Red Carpet Manicure UK and you'll find their website, free delivery too!0 -
not heard of red carpet before,

they sell red carpet on QVC too, might be cheaper elsewhere but they have special offers sometimes, plenty of reviews for info too.
my nails are quite strong naturally, very tempted with this type of manicure as i go swimming a lot, but just don't want any damage when it comes off.0 -
from what I have read if you dont want to damage your nails, dont peel of the polish, use the remover and you will be fine. Im still looking.......Debt free since July 2013! Woo hoo! The bank actually laughed when I said I have come in to cancel my overdraft.0

I had the UV gel colour put on my nails last year a few times in the Autumn as a friend had raved about it. I did find that I had to have it redone more often than her as I like dark colours so the growth shows in a week or so. It got a bit expensive to keep having it done so I had it removed and went back to my usual nail varnishes, but then found that my nails were splitting dreadfully.
They are still splitting and I'm now reduced to having to use very expensive treatment stuff to try to get them back to 'normal'. I wouldn't have them done again.0
