  • Hi
I switched about 15 years ago as dairy was causing me some health problems, it was totally worth it for that but the actual switching was horrible as at first it tasted like wallpaper paste, now I love it :) Yeah digestion is easier (for me anyway) and pre-switching I was getting a chest infection every 3 -4 months & having a permanent cold the rest of the time & now I don't :). + about a month after switching DH said 'you have really white eyeballs now' !!!! But it did lead to the Starbucks addiction!!! And poss one of the most longest orders, I have an xtrahot, single shot, decaf, soya, latte, half wet. LOL. I recently discovered you can make it longer by going half decaf/half caf :)

Oh but it would be an xtra 25p if I didn't have the Starbucks card. That's the bad thing, the discrimination.

So, i checked my bank this morning. Thanks to 2 of my lovely sisters (and some hard work from me) i now have £1000 in my bank. £500 will come out tomorrow but this means i am a whole month ahead of where i need to be :D I won't have to panic now if anything crops up out of the blue :D

As you can see i am very happy. Tomorrow i will be £244.43 less in debt and will have £250 in my savings account.

I am trying so hard to get my life in order!

My next mission is to convince mother to let me keep a dog at her house. That way i can take it for walks and hopefully shift some weight.

    :T:T:TWell done, Crimson!!!:T:T:T

You were so worried about this month but you are already on your way to another success! You are doing a great job - think about it.....not only are you working hard to get yourself out of debt and build some savings, you are also helping your family out at the same time! That takes some serious organisation and willpower. Well done you! :D

  • rainbowcattail - dumb question but what does half wet mean? lol. I LOVE being a gold member. Free syrups, free extra shots, free cream, free soya..... I go mental mixing the syrups :D and i take my own cup so get 25p off

HOK3Y - Thank you for the support. The joy of spreadsheets! I write down everything! lol. I was feeling a little deflated, the only reason i'm a month ahead is because of my sister paying off her debt in full. However, i would have still had the money to be on top of my debt AND i gave her the money so it is mine anyway lol. Feeling a little better now.

I need to broach the subject of a payrise with my manager but have no idea how to :(

  • Yeah gold membership rocks! I love getting the free drink every 15 drinks. Half wet is only half the foam :)

You are doing really well moneywise & being a great sister.

If you are doing more at work than your role entails (& who doesn't!) can you get hold of a similar JD on a higher pay scale & go through it with your manager highlighting the extra you do in addition to your own role to demonstrate your capability and justify a pay rise? Not sure if I've explained this very clearly?!
  • my main issue is i'm not sure who my manager is. I am doing a lot more than i was originally supposed to. I'm doing 40ish hours for my current job and extra for my old job (same company, same office)

i started 5 years ago. i was told, start at this rate, in three months we'll give you a pay review.... i'm still waiting for that day to come. I didn't mind having no money cause i loved my job but now i hate this new one and i know people are doing a lot less and being paid a lot more.

i just don't know what to do :(

someone get me a starbucks lol

  • I have had such a bad week personally but a great week financially! Going to treat myself to a starbucks tonight, i seriously deserve it!

I will be paid in 2-3 hours and have £200 left in my account. I'm going to transfer this in a moment towards this months total. This will bring me to a total of 700 :)

If I'm lucky enough, when i next get to £1000, if it's before the end of the month, i will put all future money into my ISA. I see no point keeping a lot of money in an account that's getting me no interest and I'm technically still saving.

I have a goal for next tax year. By April 2015 i want to have used up all of my ISA allowance :) This will mean saving £480 a month which i don't think is achievable since i also have to find £250 for my loan. My savings account will close in September 2014 with hopefully £3000 so that could go towards it which will mean i will only have to find £230 a month but i don't know if that is cheating?

My loan will be paid off March 2015 so i should be able to try again in the 2015-2016 tax year.

If i get my pay rise..... or a lottery win, i see this becoming achievable :D Still what's the point of aiming for something if it wont be a challenge to get.

Crimson, if you don't know who your manager is, this might give you an easier approach. Can you go to whoever is in charge of HR? If you go to them, explain the situation that your job has changed outside of your original contract (make sure you take a list of your current duties), that you do not even know who your manager is, and that given your increased responsibility and hours you are requesting to have your salary reviewed. Also ask for them to discern who your manager is. Put the responsibility on them. X

  • We don't have a very approachable HR team...... I think i'll just e-mail one of the high ups, strictly speaking, i think he'd be my boss' boss oh well. lol. I need to wait a week or two though as something happened Friday......

I have also just found out i have a pension i didn't know about.

I've had it 4 weeks. I'm losing about £5 of my net wages but around £9 is going into the pot. I think this extra money (£4) will reduce in time. At the minute the ratio is 1:1 then it goes to 2:3 then 3:5 with the higher value being my contribution. They are charging £1.50 Admin fees per month and 0.3% per year for something else...... What i'm trying to work out is, is it really worth me having it? It doesn't seem like i'll gain much after they have had their cut.....

Help please! Will i be better off just putting money into an ISA and making sure i don't waste it?

  • I am a little into my overdraft at the moment as i treated myself to a new coat.... I haven't bought one in at least 5 years and even then it was a cheap @sda one so i went into town and decided that if i found a coat i liked i would buy it regardless of price. Found one for £79 in the end, it's just a little blazer type one but fits me well.

I'm going to give myself this last month to go to the gym. If i don't go this month then i am cancelling. I feel like a failure but the truth of it is, i just don't have time to go. After work, if i eat dinner i dont have time to go to the gym, if i go to the gym first it would mean having dinner at 20:00 which is not very good.

Upside is, it will save me £30 a month
