claiming for a mis sold endowment

can anyone tell me if there is a way to find out who you had an endowment with back in the 80's . I must have had a good clear out and can't find any paper work from when we had our first 2 properties. Obviously our memories don't go that far back as we just can't think for the life of us who who did our mortgage or who we had the endowment with and the banks have told us they only go back 6 years with our statements so any help and advice from anyone would be greatly appreciated.

Best laugh I have had all week! :rotfl:

You are considering claiming for a mis-sold endowment that may possibly have never existed? Consequently, I would really like to know on what grounds you base your supposed claim?
  • You've got no mud. so trying to throw it at the wall to see what sticks is going to be tricky.

Rack your brains harder or give up, not sure what else to suggest.

You are looking to complain about a product that you cant remember what it was, that was sold before regulation started, that assumes you even had the product to begin with and cant recall how it was sold to you, if it indeed was.

Ignoring the fact you appear to have no grounds for complaint, how would you get round it being pre-regulation? Or even if it was voluntarily agreed to be reviewed, how would you get round the 3 year/6 year time bar?

  • it always surprises me how some people can be so unhelpful on this board - some are just plain nasty.
we did have an endowment so I know it existed but we can't remember who it was with I was just purely asking if there was any way to find out that is all - a simple no there isn't would have been enough .

Many of the posters here are financial advisers, and they will likely have been burnt by spurious mis-selling claims.

Many people think that if they've had an endowment, it must have been mis-sold and they must be due compensation. That isn't necessarily true - but sorting that out costs advisers a lot of time and money. In the main, people on these boards do try to help people out, but they're not keen on causing other people work by encouraging spurious claims.

If you'd said "I know my endowment policy was mis-sold because [reason]", the tone of some of the responses is likely to have been a little different.

I'm afraid I can't add anything though - if the thing matured more than six years ago, and you can't remember who it was with, there's nothing you can do.

If it helps, it's extremely unlikely any complaint would succeed even if you did remember (for the reasons dunstonh gave). So you're not missing out on anything because you've forgotten.
  • thank you Annisele I really appreciate your helpful advice.

if you merely wanted to know how to track an old endowment why was the title to your OP "claiming for a mis sold endowment?"
