Self-Employed. What do you work over Christmas period?

I am just wondering what/how much time self-employed people take off over Christmas.

I am SE cleaner and do some work for an agency. They have asked me to tell them my availability over the Christmas period.

It's a given that I'll take Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day off, as well as NY's Day.

What about you?

  • Do you need to be off on New Years Day? There could be scope for double time if people want help clearing up after a party. I would work Christmas Eve also - it is a normal working day.
  • I agree that it is good practice for the self employed to make themselves available whenever their clients need their services the most.

  • Depends on how much money you think you can make in that period.

    Thanks everyone.
The agency dont give double time or time and a half etc, so i'd just be working for normal pay.

I only took Christmas Eve and Christmas Day off last year, but I'm hoping to take more time off this coming Christmas since profits are high and I can afford to relax. Depends how much you need the money and whether you want to impress the agency with what a hard worker you are. :) Is your self-employment new and you need to prioritise building it? Or you're already successful (by your own definition) and can afford to take more time off?
