Re-mortgage advice, help please

Hi everyone, hope someone can help or offer advice to get us out of this predicament.
We currently own a BDSO (I think it's called?) It's a steel top half to the house on a council estate. We purchased the house for 60 k two years ago and it's valued at around 85-90,
We are now over the two year fixed term the original Mortgage which was taken out through The Alfa group now known as Blue Star, in the past 3 months they have tried but there is no communication or go in them and after a lender agreeing then backing out due to a marginal
Credit score we are getting no joy with them and I'm getting sick to death of it when they were going to be charging me £1800
We are looking to re-mortgage adding 12k to it for home improvements and looking to fix it on a 2-5 year deal.
My credit history is bankrupt in 2009 therefore I am not on the mortgage. My wife's credit is not the best as she's never had any credit and we did find it hard getting the mortgage two years back.
Her income is around the £19.800 mark.
The last conversation I have had with blue star they are advising me to speak to Halifax, but this is all new to us so I thought I would ask here!
Hope someone can help or offer advice, many thanks.
