just us this year?

this will be mine and DH's first christmas as a married couple and im seriously considering spending it just us. we normally end up traveling all over the place visiting his family who live in the same town an hour away and then back to my parents up the road, we never get any time with anyone as everyone else is also dashing in and out on visiting runs.
so im thinking about doing his family on christmas eve, and then inventing my family here on boxing day and il do a christmas dinner?

now all i need is some ideas from other couples on how to spend the day just us, so far i know i want posh brekki and to take the dog for a lovely walk but no idea about what to eat etc? DH doesnt like xmas dinner so im not making one for just me...

any ideas?? x

  • What does he like to eat? And different families have diff. things for xmas din. so i'm sure you can still prep a lovely festive meal that you both would like.
  • I would love to do this, we live so close to our families though so there's really no good excuse we can give! If we were to do it I think a day sitting in our jammies watching Christmas films and eating chocolate would be the way to go!

As for your meal I suppose if it is just the 2 of you you can have whatever you want, it's not like there are other people there that you need to please.

    Like your posh breakie idea!

We had a brilliant xmas a couple of years ago, just me and my husband, we sat in our PJS chilling out and watching films, and eating snacky party food..we loved it and both agreed it was far better than being sat round a relatives house, in a cramped room and commuting on xmas day.

I would much rather be at home than anywhere else at xmas
The opposite of what you know...is also true
  • after having a proper think about it im really looking forward to it, gona be so nice to have time for just us.

iv come up with a rough day plan, think
wake up at whatever time (early knowing me as i love christmas! im like a big kid x)
have scrambled egg and croissants with bucks fizz for breakfast then open our pressies and let doggy open his.
then have a nice hot bath each (hopefully with some new nice smellies) and get into some festive clothes (nice jumper etc)

Dh has suggested instead of cooking a dinner of any sort gettin some nice posh party food like M&S or waitrose and having carpet picnic with blankets candles and music and of course our little fake fire:rotfl:and some bubbly (now we are very tight money wise so going to hopefully get a big box and collect things over next few months just for us xmas day:))

then take our dog for a lovely long walk we are lucky enough to live near the countryside.

then back home for an evening of christmas films, games, more nipples and booze

i think this sounds pretty good but would like to think of a few other lil things we could do?

awww sounds lush, im hopin u will both have a lovely day, usually the day is rushed altogether in one day, i have always liked to spread xmas over xmas day an boxin day, much better for the kids lol.
just wonderin if gettin a small joint an slow roastin it over nite? veg can be done day before an heated up as required. but its a good day to be naughty an get those pastries an sweets an relax in each others company all day as well, i know we have done that before pre children lol
  • the last couple of years it's just been us (except DS surprised us & camehome christmas eve!!) we had Peking duck one year - it was easy but the pancakes we a sod to get hold of & last year we had roast duck and the family come to us boxing day - after big family Christmases when the kids were smaller it came as a bit of a shock so be prepared for that

We had our baby girl in March so this is her first Christmas. I am super excited :)

However, its also going to be our first proper Christmas alone at home. I always go to my mums.... so will be strange. However, we are hosting on Boxing day, so it will be like a second Christmas day :)

On xmas day, I don't have a clue what to make for dinner. On Boxing day I was going to cook Goose as I've never had it before and thought it would be different. However, I have since decided to go for either lamb or beef slow cooked stew and dumplings. Will still have a little starter and pud with crackers and other xmassy things.

    I'm excited :D
