I know this is probably a totally stupid question - but how can I figure out what interest I would be saving over the month by making the overpayment? Have also seen people chat about their daily interest and whats it going down to and stuff - how can I figure this out? Although I appreciate this will be higher just now as we are only at the start of our term.Saving for our next step up the property ladder0

I just asked the mortgage company what the daily interest rate was.
Never could get on with Excel spreadsheets so had to go with the least sophisticated way of finding out!Sealed Pot Challenge - No. 117

Just had a call from OH at work to tell me she has had her car tax refund cheque in the post so thats an extra £35 towards the savings fund.
Will cash that in tomorrow, and pay day as well so should break the £1k mark. Not much yet, but not bad as we are just starting out agian after moving / wedding et al
Got a night out tonight and tomorrow for work though and will try and not spend too much! Just a few deserved drinks after a hard week at workSaving for our next step up the property ladder0 -
Congratulations on such a successful year for you both! It sounds like you've both got your heads screwed on. OH and I started quite young with our first house too but the sooner you start the sooner you can get rid of the mortgage!0

Hi Young Baker. Just making a return visit after your lovely post on my diary (subscribes).
We are trying to hold off on the heating until 1st October. However, if the windows start steaming up on the inside it will have to go on as that's when the house is likely to start getting damp. It starts to get difficult to get washing dry too... just read that back and realised how glamorous my life sounds :rotfl:
Good luck on your MF journey

Ha ha thanks :-)
Oh, is that the key to tell when it's time when the windows get steamed up? We have woke up this week and thats whats happening in one of our bedrooms now and wasnt sure if this was cause the heating wasnt on! Think we will maybe just atart with an hour in the morning for now as thats when its coldest but wont be long before its ramped up im sure!
On another note.... PAY DAY TODAY :j:beer:
Managed only to spend a tenner last night on work night out 1. Its someones leaving drinks today though so will likely be a bit more. Will need to get money transferred to all the pots today and see where we are at. Got quite a few things we need to buy this weekend too so wont be a cheap one - will all be from allocated budgets though so its all good.
Hope everyone has a happy friday!Saving for our next step up the property ladder0 -
When it comes to heating I am trying to wait until 1st October too and then every week after that is a bonus!
We all pile on the jumpers and socks before we turn on the heating. I work from home sometimes though and there were times last winter when I sat fully clothed and in my dressing gown typing emails with very little feeling in my fingers - this is usually the point at which I give in and put the heating on during the week:D0 -
Had a bit of a hectic day at work today and almost forgot to cash in the cheque for the car tax refund! Managed to run round to the bank before it closed just there, so once it clears will get that transferred over to the savings pot
Haven't had a chance to start moving around my wages from payday today yet either, everything is planned out and it has it's place to go and usually get time on my lunch to transfer it all where it needs to go.
Looking forward to having a wee drink tonight after a long, busy week at work!Other than that not much to report, although it's pay day the savings won't go up much as my wages pay the bills etc. Looking forward to OH's which will get it boosted up
Hope you all have that Friday feeling!
Only downside is we have a weather warning for this weekendWill hopeflly stop us going out and spending mind you ha

Had a cheap night last night so that was good. Not so much today though haha, went shopping but to be fair didn't buy anything we didn't need!
Have made our first 'tilly tidy' hahaha a whole 26p hahahaha but it has rounded us up to £960 on the nose so thats good
Not gonna make the £1k in savings from my salary this month - would rather have enough in all our other pots and then if theres anything left over can get it over later in the month rather than putting it in now and being left short! Not to worry though, OH gets paid a week on thursday and her salary is the one that will be going into savings etc. so will be well over the 1k then
Other than that, had a pretty quiet Saturday. Both me and OH are feeling a bit run down for some reason. Thinking we will go up and visit SIL and BIL for a drink later on but will see how it all ends up!Saving for our next step up the property ladder0 -
Update your sig Mr, it'll make you feel better
Regarding you earlier question about daily interest etc, most of us have spreadsheets set up. There is a link floating about, let me find it and come back.

This is the link, with instructions on how to set it up. I use and love it!0
