Monday 9th September - What small DFW things will you do today?

When we start out on the Debt-Free Wannabe trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym.

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free. .

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending :money:

  • Good for you Ziggy!!!!!!
I went part time for the exact same reason - life is too short!
    :rotfl:
  • Morning Ziggy thanks for kicking us off! Hope you feel the decision you have made is the right one for you. Once we've made the right decision the rest is easy! :)

Gosh we have woken up to Autumn :( that was so sudden it took me by surprise. Oh well on to warmer clothes I guess!

    Small things for me today:
    * check banking
    * all meals from stores
    * wrap up & return a dress that is too small for me
    * working from home so saving petrol and time ;)
    * wrap up it's chilly here!
    * hang put washing - might partially dry it off ;)
    * watch Breaking Bad tonight with our free Netflix trail
    * open savings account - have seen the 52 week savings challenge which I'm going to join :)
    * go for a run in my lunch break
    * work efficiently! Opps I haven't even started yet!

  • Good morning everyone and thanks to ziggy for the kick off today :)

So, back to work this morning for me after a pretty chilled out weekend. We got the second coat of paint on our landing and I managed to deep clean the living room, dining room, hallway and landing too. I love a clean house lol!

    On to today:

*Dogs out in the drizzle this morning - DONE (complete with semi-frizzy, semi-wispy hair)
*Stuck petrol in the car on the way to work - £60 only and has to last me to the end of the month! Eek!
*Make sure I only work 7 hours today, I'm giving way too much free time to this company since they removed flexitime!
*Book oldest dog into vets for his 6-weekly blood test
*Do a bit of filing at home
*Order gas bottles! Managed to make two 47kg bottles last 5 months this summer :)
*Start 30 Day Shred again. Did it before I went on holiday, saw amazing results (went down to a size 8), went on holiday and ate too much, undid all the hard work and results!
*Cook chicken tikka masala for dinner tonight - mmmmmmm
*Walk dogs in the drizzle again this evening - cue more frizzy and wispy hair
*Add hair conditioner to Tesco delivery!
*Put extra blanket on bed tonight - I refuse to put the heating on in September, especially after my gas bottle extravaganza.

    Have a good day everyone!

    Morning Monday Money Savers,
I turn into a squirrel this time of year (Autumn is my absolute favourite), getting all the fruit & veg in, preserved, frozen, or whatever, so my lists reflect that.....sorry if it's getting boring.
    Small positive things today:
*Laundry washed overnight on Economy 7, 30 deg, half powder. Reloaded & timer set for another wash tonight.
*Everything line-drying in this lovely sunshine.
*Make bread rolls for family visit tomorrow.
    *Make biscuits.
*Pulled more rhubarb & stewed it.
*Picked runner beans & sliced to serve with dinner tomorrow.
*Rounded up latest windfalls & the handful of spring onions plucked from container by something naughty with a beak!
*Picked parsley for tonight's meal & also a bunch of sage which is hanging from kitchen beam to dry with a whole heap of other stuff.
    *Froze more chillies.
*Dinner will be leftover spicy pulled pork I did on Sat in the slow cooker with rice & homegrown salad.
*Tomorrow's packed lunch made with the very last of the pulled pork, which is fine because mr f could eat my pulled pork till it's coming out of his ears!
*Do some Christmas present knitting - finished my cushion cover last night & made it up, even had a cushion pad the right size. Christmas gift currently on the needles is a man's sock in bright primary-coloured self-patterning sock wool. Can't cast on jumper as planned as found that the 2 sizes of needles I require are the only ones I don't have in my vast knitting needle collection!! Typical! Will buy tomorrow from local discount shop, but will try a charity shop first as they often have a big pot of 2nd hand ones on their counter.
Think that's it for money-saving jobs....plenty of others to do too, today, especially getting my horrible roots sorted out.....very boring job, but got a good audiobook on the go - a Swedish psychological crime novel....v dark & compelling & makes boring jobs simply fly by!
@ziggy - I didn't want to give up work, I loved my profession, but had got to the point where I couldn't keep my gob shut much longer. Sometimes leaving is the right thing to do. Good luck with job hunting. Sometimes you just have to do what is right for you x
    Cheers everyone,
    foxgloves x
