Anyone bought a chemistry set for 8yr old

I guess the title says it all. Our oldest grandchild loves lego but he has so much of it as he has saved hard from birthdays etc. I want to buy a science set, probably chemistry. Any ideas as when I read the reviews they sound a bit rubbish.

Our budget is just £20 max as we have 10 grandchildren and I also make them all a gift.

or do you want something more technical than this?
  • Maybe look at the Richard Hammond sets they do (usually in boots 3 for2) he has a few different ones out, which I have bought for my nephew and brother when they were a little younger. While they are educational, the kids weren't put off (which can happen with serious sets) as they were tailored interests.

Also national geographic do some smaller sets such as "makea potato clock" I know its not chemistry, but worth a look?
