You can say that you've just got a text/phone call saying your partner has just bought the same items on their way home from work. And you won't be ale to fit it in the fridge /freezer.

I can remember back in the day of DPP (double price promise). Something I got didn't work, so I took it back with a convulated story of how it was the wrong item blah de blah. The SA said to me "Stop lying, you only got it because you wanted to do DPP, didn't you?" so I looked away coyly as I had gotten busted. She said "I couldn't care less, I'm getting sacked so bring as much stuff back as you want to!" and told me what days she worked in case I wanted to take more things back. Result or what?

    Surprisingly, she still works there...........
