Whats the take home pay for a single adult male at the current UK minimum wage, working full time 40 hours per week ?

And would he be above benefits level ?

  • After tax and NI it is £225.84 - assuming you don't have student loan contributions and assuming you get paid for all 40hrs (some employers wont pay for your lunch break)

Unless kids are invovled you wouldn't get any where near that amount on benifits.

Not sure what your point is really.
People don't know what they want until you show them.

If you work hard then there is no reason why you can't come of NMW relatively easy. It is about future prospects, you have none on the dole.

The point is millions of people work for the minimum wage or thereabouts and its well below the ' living wage ' recommendation at todays prices. Check it out.

As for benefits, i havent studied them in detail but a single man living solo and paying rent could get housing benefit, council tax reduction-up to 100%-and £71.60 per week jobseekers. Then there's free prescriptions and dental care.

What might that little lot add up to for starters ?

My last trip to the dentists cost me £204 for a crown and two fillings. I get just above the minimum wage income.

I think in a lot of cases:
    jobseekers 71.60
housing benefit say 80, but some will be more
    council tax 20

any perscriptions, glasses, opticians appointments, dental work are generally covered by it too. I agree with the person above that minimum wage doesn't pay much more than people on jobseekers. it really is a crazy system
    :T:T :beer: :beer::beer::beer: to the lil one :) :beer::beer::beer:

The dentist bit is a red herring really, some of us don't need to go from one year to the next.
Under 35 year old single bloke would only get the shared accom rate so about £70-£80 per week, £71.60 jsa and roughly £10 per week help with council tax. A grand total of around £160 for doing nothing but no prospects for getting a wage rise or career advancement.
The benefit system starts to go wrong when kids and child tax credits are thrown into the mix, then it starts to look more beneficial to live off the state.
    Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.
